Manchester United are plotting a major double swoop on Bournemouth, with a combined outlay of around £150m being prepared for next summer.
The club spent heavily on midfield reinforcements during the summer window but failed to address a left-back position that remains a clear area of concern.
Spanish youngster Jorge Salinas was among those linked with a move to Old Trafford, but he ultimately remained at Racing de Santander, leaving the position unfilled.
United had long been connected with Newcastle’s Lewis Hall as a potential solution, though that avenue has now closed following news of a new contract at St James’ Park.
Reporter Craig Hope has indicated there will be no release clause inserted into Hall’s new deal, effectively ending United’s pursuit and forcing the club to look elsewhere.
David Ornstein has suggested Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert could be a key target, speaking on The Athletic Podcast about the left-back market.
“Not many clubs recruited in that left-back position, which means there’s going to be a need on the horizon,” Ornstein said, highlighting Truffert’s appeal to some of the biggest clubs.
“Truffert has a really good age profile. He’s the sort of player that you could see moving. Manchester United were one team that we talked about with left-backs over the window, and there will be more. It is going to be an interesting one.”
Ornstein added: “I’m hearing a value of around £60m and that there’s potentially a deal to be done next summer. I could see him being capable of playing for one of the biggest clubs.”
Beyond Truffert, United are also weighing up a move for Bournemouth forward Rayan, who is valued at approximately £90m and has scored six goals in 19 appearances since joining the club.
The 20-year-old has drawn lavish praise from those who have worked with him, with Carlo Ancelotti saying: “Nobody knows the level he can reach.”
Truffert, meanwhile, has made 42 appearances for Bournemouth, contributing five assists, and has earned high praise from Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who has described him as “exceptional” in adapting to the Premier League.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has been a consistent presence down the left flank and is considered one of the most effective attacking full-backs in the division.
A combined deal for both players could cost United in the region of £150m, representing a substantial commitment for a club still in the midst of a rebuild under Michael Carrick.
United’s defensive department remains a work in progress, with several senior players including Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire all contracted only until June 2027.
Signing Truffert would go some way to solving the persistent left-back problem, while adding Rayan would bring a dynamic attacking option to complement the squad’s evolving identity.
The club is understood to be preparing to open talks with Bournemouth next year, with the Old Trafford hierarchy viewing both signings as priorities going into the 2027 summer window.
If completed, the double deal would represent a bold statement of intent from United as they look to close the gap on the Premier League’s elite clubs.
