Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both pursuing a deal to sign highly rated Germany Under-21 international striker Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge.
The 22-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting young attacking prospects on the continent over the past two seasons.
Tresoldi developed through the academy system at Hannover, where he made 79 appearances and scored 14 goals while also providing six assists across all competitions.
His impressive performances attracted the attention of Club Brugge, who signed him last summer in keeping with their well-known youth-driven recruitment approach.
Since arriving at the Jan Breydel Stadium, Tresoldi has contributed an extraordinary 37 goal involvements, including 19 in the Jupiler Pro League last season, enough to claim the division’s top scorer award.
His current campaign has continued in similar fashion, with the striker netting five goals in seven games while also registering 15 fast breaks since the start of the season.
His 50.93% conversion-related ranking stands highest among any Brugge player to score ten or more goals since last season, underlining his clinical edge in front of goal.
Representatives from both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were present in Belgium on Tuesday evening to watch Tresoldi in action against Aston Villa, with Brugge ultimately losing the match 3-2.
Despite the defeat, Tresoldi still made a tangible contribution to the occasion by converting from the penalty spot to leave a clear impression on the watching scouts.
United’s delegation also used the trip to progress their interest in Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys, a player the club had already made enquiries about during the summer transfer window.
Club Brugge are expected to demand a transfer fee comfortably above Tresoldi’s current Transfermarkt valuation of £21 million, given the level of competition for his signature.
With two Premier League clubs now firmly in the running, the race to secure the young German forward is set to be one of the more compelling transfer battles of the window.
