Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo, according to a report from Record via Sport Witness.
Spurs face serious competition for the 25-year-old Mozambique international, with Sunderland and several Saudi Arabian clubs also keen on securing his signature.
Como have also made preliminary enquiries with Sporting CP about Catamo’s availability, making this a crowded and competitive transfer pursuit.
Catamo has made a strong start to the current campaign, contributing two goals and three assists across six appearances for Sporting in various competitions.
Sunderland attempted to sign the winger during the summer transfer window but failed to reach an agreement after Sporting held firm on their valuation.
The Championship club were prepared to offer €35 million plus €5 million in bonuses, but Sporting demanded a guaranteed €40 million for their prized asset.
Sunderland remain serious contenders for Catamo’s signature and recently sent a representative to watch him play against Galatasaray in the Champions League.
He produced an impressive performance in that match, scoring during Sporting’s 3-1 victory to further underline his quality at the highest level.
By August 19, Sunderland had been preparing to activate Catamo’s €60 million release clause, suggesting just how seriously they were pursuing the player over the summer.
Tottenham’s interest comes at a time when Spurs require more creativity and directness on the flanks, with Mathys Tel yet to make a consistent impact in that role this season.
Catamo is a technically gifted winger who can beat defenders with his dribbling, drive forward with purpose, and deliver decisive passes in the final third.
He is also capable of scoring from long range and operates primarily on the right flank, though he can play on the left side if required.
Across 143 appearances for Sporting CP, Catamo has contributed an impressive 23 goals and 18 assists, demonstrating his consistency and output over several seasons.
