For £8M We Should Sign Him Up, For Sure…

The footballing world has been shaken to it’s very core at the news that Mr Scott Mosely Parker has according to the Sunday Mirror rebuffed the advances of Turkish bohemoths Fenerbahce in order that Uncle Arry can make what top ranking pundits anticipate to be an audacious swoop.

A million love songs and £8M later and the Tottingham’s supremo should have his man.

I’ve been pondering this deal – well there’s something iffy about this toaster I think it may be the thermostat and one’s mind tend to wander when staring at a butter dish – and am coming around to the idea of Parker’s 1940’s barnet sprouting out of the Lilywhite.

This whole Uncle Arry arm around the shoulder, he’s a top top player for sure business lost it’s charms on me a while back. Largely as my perception was of a bloke who was talking the same language as Crouch and Defoe but was left scratching his loaf when it can to Pav and Modders.

Modric I am convinced and this all supposition on my part is no more communicative with Arry than Pav or anyone else born beyond the chimes of Bow Bells. To an extent I believe that the Croat Cruyff is so good you could literally drop him into any team in the world and he’d do the business. He understands.

People describe some players as having a footballing brain. Occasionally this is to mask the fact they have yet to fully master cutlery, but more often to acknowledge that they are instinctively conversant in the nuances of the game.

Pav I admit is perhaps less so ‘with it’, but having some Cockney Sparra shouting Use the channels, drop in, in, in…oh my days. Pav! Pav! E’s deaf inne?. Release! Play it into …the… Oh for fu… at a bloke who’s English isn’t 100% isn’t the answer.

My point is that if we can meet somewhere in the middle, I might be happy. How sweet of me. But I hope you see where I’m coming from  here. I was put off Parker largely on the basis that I saw it as the start of Arry turning us into West Am 2.0.

Parker coming into replace Modders stories were clumsy and to be frank I think I bought into them a little. I’d argue all day that Pav is three or four times the player 3MP is, but we have a scenario whereby Crouchino is the only striker Arry has come out and said he’d be reluctant to sell.

It’s precisely this sort of thing that terrifies me. Even Arry knows he can’t defend Defoe anymore. No chance. We’ve heard all about ‘the injury’ (you’d think he’d been hit by a runaway truck if you didn’t know better) but the reality is Defoe has become so formulaic, so wound up and unimaginative I don’t know what the answer is. Nor do Spurs. That’s why they gave him a Jimmy Greaves DVD ferchrissakes.

What I want is a measured approach to the way our team is constructed and managed. Push and run. Not just Parker brought in to wallop the ball onto 3MP’s nut. I prefer Parker to Rodwell or perhaps any other of these £20m plus boys that have suddenly sprung up like daffodils. We need to get back into the Champions League and we’ll do more than damage our chances taking a punt that maybe doesn’t quite come off.

Hear me right on this, this isn’t me saying Bentley was a disaster so we should only ever buy proven pensioners in future, what I’m saying is that it’s a question of getting the balance right.

A small request: I put out in a blog some time back a small cry for help in relation to assistance with a HH podcast. There  was a brilliant response from a number of readers who appeared to be well worth talking to.

Unfortunately, I have discovered that the email I was using at that time has been made defunct – for want of a better word.

So I wasn’t being an ignorant git, my replies went into a void. If anyone who expressed an interest is still interested in assisting in the tech side then please mail me on the old faithful harryhotspur.blogspot.com@hotmail.co.uk.

Aye fankyou.

On the subject of under 21’s I watched the england game last night – if second rate players like rodwell & henderson are worth £20 million why have we just sold o’hara for £5 million?

The spanish midfield must be worth at least £60 million each considering their difference in class.

Walker looked really good going forward, maybe better off playing in lennon’s position?????

    • Spurfect says:

Was thinking exactly the same with Walkers. Will be great cover for RB AND RW next season. Maybe starting as RB and moving up the pitch if Lennon need replacing/injured etc…

  • Devonshirespur says:

We won’t go in for parker until the likes of Palacios/Jenas/Kranjcar are moved on, otherwise we get lumbered with an over crowded centre midfield division.

Harry is talking about adding real quality….Parker aint it.

He’s a squad player and i would not want him starting regularly ahead of any of Sandro/Huddlestone/Modric. Look how little WP & JJ played last season, even with Huddlestone out for 4 months and Sandro not really getting a regular game until Jan onwards.

Would Parker be happy with that? at his age?

What is the point of having another top earner (£70k-£80k/wk) sitting on the bench most weeks.

    STRIKER PLEASE!

IMO we need to cut our wage bill ASAP, even if it means accepting under the market value for fringe players. This will allow us to offer GOOD new players reasonable salaries. We need a car-boot sale:
Bassong, O’Hara, Keane or Naughton for 5M o.n.o.
Bentley, Kranjcar (would like to keep him but Redknapp has obviously lost interest) or Gio (lets face it Redknapp will never give him a go) for 6M o.n.o
Crouch or Gomes for 7-8M o.n.o.
Defoe – special bargain of the day – 10M

I’d be on the phone to Jol and idiots like Steve Bruce trying to flog them.

    • toddspur says:

gotta say that I am inclined to agree with you but you didnt mention JJ?…surely he has value and has to go too? Maybe I’d keep Basser as cover but doubt he will stay on that basis.

My heart says keep Gio and loan him out till Xmas and then see where we are. Selling the others you mention might raise 20/25m; add to that the fund of say £30m = £50/55m. Then spend half of it on a top quality striker and another 5-8m on a connor wickham/young european version. If Woody still looks crocked by first training session in July buy another CH for 10m….Cahill or a big foreign unit (not Upson please) THEN we are looking a lot stronger in the key areas

      • toddspur says:

ooops, meant to say I’d like Hangeerland as an option at CH

        • Spurfect says:

We either need to ge Gio back into the squad or sell him while we get get a decent price. I’d much prefer to keep him, he mustve done some growing up by now and there’s no doubting his ability. Unfortunately I dont think Harry can be bothered like most of our youth players. The myth of him being able to polish up a rough coal into a diamond is beginning to fade…

        • Roland Rat says:

Gio is a piss head, we don’t need him. He only plays for Mexico, he doesn’t do it in club football, he flopped in his loan spell in Spain, to many bars around.

        • MysteriousStranger says:

          Roland,

He did not flop in his loan spell in Spain. It was quite successful.

9 Starts, and 7 substitute appearances, 5 goals.

I suppose he was supposed to lead Racing Santander to La Liga glory, was he?

Your comment smacks of both prejudice and mindless idiocy to come out with that bollocks. So, congratulations for lifting your knuckles high enough off the ground to reach the keyboard and type anything in the first instance.

  • Schotty says:

Totally agree with you ianmri … possibly add Palacios & Jenas to that list … then bring in better quality or those that provide a good example (in the Graham Roberts mode) to the youngsters and genuinely give the team a lift when they step on the pitch. IMO Parker comes into that category. Read somewhere in the past that he is genuinely a Spurs fan. We then might be able to bring in a Rodwell + another quality CB. Heard that Bassong might be offered to Stoke along with extra cash for Shawcross. To me that makes sense. Problem is that we are struggling to offload our fringe players. As you say, ianmri, a fire sale is needed … jfdit, believe that we are actually represented at the U.21 tournament – we were only one of 3 or 4 Prem League sides with scouts over there …

    • toddspur says:

I guess we ought to be mindful of our Europa campaign?

On that basis we should keep Wilson, Caulker and maybe Naughton for these games.

      • Spurfect says:

I think Wilson Will go. Agree that we need to keep players such as Caulker, Rose, Walker and Naughton so WE can develop them into OUR system rather than someone else who you dont know what theyre doing with them and half the time not playing them. Thats what Harry and the coaches are paid to do, not just rub the senior players egos. How many times have I heard him say about a young player having a great future at the lane then farming them out and selling them – O’Hara, Dos Santos, Taarabt, KPB – When he became manager he actually said about KPB, something to the effect of ‘He’s a player, If I cant get the best out of a player as good as him then I’m not doing my job properly, what am I doing here..?’

  • Dee says:

I find it hard to believe Spurs fans think Our current porous Midfield where any opposition players with some guile
can easily play through is capable of grabbing a Top4 place next season.. This is the SAME MIDFIELD that failed last season so obviously something has to change.
FOr me our midfeild is just too weak and and stroong enough as a unit to protect the back 4..Our defense is not too bad , I just dont see the Midfield protecting it. To be fair Modric,Bale,Lennon will give the opposition chance to play and that is where our trouble lies as there are not the physical types. We need to change our style of play and and add more grit to it especially away from home where a lot of mediocre teams give us the runaround. Whether Parker is the man is open to debate but am sorry this midfield failed last season and WILL fail again next season.
