Good afternoon.
I’m finding the attitude of some Tottingham fans laughable. And that’s as generous as I’m going to get. Tell me, just what is your position on cups these days? I mean do they still hold any appeal at all?
I was recently accused (no really it happened, some boys pointed at me, said something then pegged it) of being some dreadful type who expected to win every game 5-0. An immediate gratification merchant.
This was in response to the fact that I dared to acknowledge the truth that watching our Yoofsters and second stringers I find [A] largely boring [B]Not very good value for money.
The kids so far have scraped past less than mediocre opposition in the Europa Cup and been a pivotal element in being dumped out of the Carling Cup.
So if we forget about my feeble attention span and ignore my miserly approach to life, tell me this and tell me true. What value do the cups actually have to you these days?
Here’s the poll.
[poll id=23]
Play the kids in the cups, after all, no-one really celebrated when Woodgate scored to put us 2-1 up against Chelsea.
They need to gain this valuable experience, it will stand them in good stead for when they are playing for league 1 teams in a couple of years after following the usual Dean Marney school of youth progression.
no-one really celebrated when Woodgate scored to put us 2-1 up against Chelsea.
Wind up, no?
Speak for yourself!
I’ve only celebrated that hard a couple of other times. That was a great match of a freezing cold day. Woody Woz God.
FA Cup matters most of the cups tho. Won’t be happy going out in our first match in that comp…
Berk!
I cried tears of sheer adrenaline when that goal went in! It doesn’t matter how devalued a trophy is, seeing your team score the winner for one is a joy to behold.
I nearly went through my TV screen.
Ran in, slid on my knees except I didn’t slide did I? So my knees caught fire and my upper body’s momentum caused an involuntary attempted head butt.
I have to agree but also disagree, when we lost against the cheating pikeys last year I thought fuck this for a game of soldiers, this loss whilst not great news is down to our second string not being good enough.
They keep proving that and if we’d played our best team and won but got injuries to modders, bale or adebayor we’d be fucked.
Why not save the best players for competitions that actually mean something? Truth is the CC cup is a losers/reserves compo.
Our league cup win was sweet simply because we stuffed the goons and then beat cheatski in the final
I lost my voice somewhere in the Sports Bar at Piccadilly!! A whole floor of Spurs boys out singing the floor of Chelsea scum ALL MATCH!! What a day!
Still, as I said before, the cups still count granted..but for me THIS YEAR, Champions League qualification is a must if we want to hold onto our best players.
Its not that our players cant play 2 games a week, its just we haven’t got the squad to risk it!
In the pub. Dropped beer everywhere. So bought a big fuck off bottle of champagne and dropped that everywhere too!
Hmmm. I was there. Everyone went nuts and even more nuts at the final whistle.
You Sir should hang your head in shame…….I’m still celebrating! :freu :freu
And for the record, sarcasm is the lowest form of humour… ;-)
Or the highest.
Lets have a poll….. :-p
i think it was a sarcastic comment…
You don’t say….
I still have a flag from that day signed by Woodgate hanging in my house.
I cant remember where i put the one from finishing 4th though…..
Christ, I nearly went into cardiac arrest running round the room screaming when Woodgate scored against Chelsea.
I turned round and found myself hugging Ian Duncan-Smith who was also going mental. I washed myself afterwards obviously.
And… before I’m clobbered with the old ‘people want it both ways, always talking about players being given a chance…’
Yes, that’s right. When they are knocking on the door’ give one a go. Not field an entire flipping team of them.
If you go to a top restaurant and asked to pay top prices you don’t expect beans on toast and to be told the kitchen is entirely run by children as it’s important to give the kids a go.
Corluka is not a kid, Giovani is not a kid, Bassong is not a kid, Kaboul is not a kid, Gomes is not a kid.
Are you getting the picture you selective moron, or do I need to go on?
I fail to see how you cannot grasp that ‘Arry is putting a clear message out there that Carling / Europa is not his responsibility. To a lesser extent, with a substantial outflux of squad players, there is a need to utilise the squad and having dined at the top table, I would rather we try our damndest to get back there, even if it is at the expense of the Mickey Mouse Cup and the second-rate Europa League.
Sorry, I’d be nicer in my delivery of argument – but I think you’re a c*** [edited by HH]
by ‘not his responsibility’ I actually mean ‘not his priority’, obviously…
and by ‘c***’ you actually meant ‘bloody nice bloke’?
If you could read as well as you get shirty, then you’d have seen my comment about second stringers. Corluka is a first teamer and possibly the dullest we still have. Bassong was too wet to even be sold for £1 or 2 mill in the last window and Dos Santos? Do me a favour. Talk about twisting an argument. If Arry gets a good game out of him I’ll buy you a new revolving bow tie to celebrate.
What you fail to see or otherwise isn’t my problem. My problem is wading through 3 blogs worth of comments in order to do you the courtesy of editing your rudeness so it’s fit to publish and then respond.
You don’t like debate/free thinking/opinions that differ from your own?
Cool. Get the hell off the Internet, switch off your TV, never read another newspaper again. May your next cup of Bovril has a crack in it which you do not notice until you have returned to your seat.
So don’t pay the money.
I don’t think Levy would appreciate a 10,000 crowd in the next cup round.
1) We need to be established in the CL before we can get a suitably sized squad to challenge on all fronts. By doing so we will create competition for the big games – not a perceived demotion for the likes of Pav, Gomes and GDS;
2) Are we saying we should have kept “those-whom-we have sold” merely to populate the lesser competitions? No;
3) The League and the FA Cup for me. Next year I want a CL, League and FA Cup challenge. We’ll need some of these yoofsters – and some rising stars from lesser clubs not much money.
4) Add to that a stadium of which to be proud and I’ll be as happy as a new season ticket holder could be.
Carling Cup…pah. It would have got in the way if we had progressed. A&E and Kaboul playing. Didn’t like that one bit.
So, in a nutshell, I won’t pay as much (important – that “as much”) to watch the lesser lights in lesser competitions.
Still like watching on TV though!
How many eight hundred quids do ‘Spurs want from me?
I’d like to tick both boxes really. You can’t ifnore the truth, whilst you cant ignore the heavy heart that craves for silverware
Can’t we try both? I still think we should attempt to field something close to our strongest side.
In the end it was Cups for me. I want to see our best players.
Can i be greedy H-H, and vote for both?
You can vote 3 times. I’m in that kindda mood ;-)
