Still on for the treble then.

Good morning born again wireless enthusiasts. I trust you all rounded off your evening’s aural entertainment with a warming cup of Ovaltine and a fistful of mogadons.

In fairness to the radio johnnies they captured the mood perfectly .Their minds wandered towards anything that was more interesting than the game. The fact that the hot water boiler at the Brittania was kaput so no tea (how they yearned for milk and two shugs) and the early departure of gentleman sporting an comb over to rival that of George Roper’s.

So only 1500 odd Tottingham fans saw it. You happy few. A few reports have trickled in and they all match the misery we imagined when listening. The reality that a noble few are determined to gloss over is the fact that playing second string players makes for third rate viewing and in this case …abject failure.

It’s just not the Tottingham way. Just like grinding out 1-0’s aren’t either. I predicted 0-0 and did so with a heavy heart. Bloody Stoke ferchrissakes. But no, I am told it is good for us to give the yoofsters out.

Cod liver oil is good for you too and as it is equally grim on the palate the overwhelming majority folk avoid it like the plague.

I have to ponder where we could end up if we extend the logic on all this. ‘It’s only the Europa, it’s only the Carling, it’s just the FA Cup’… Having an old fashioned football is going out of fashion. Players want £200k a week and then are goaded at gunpoint away from their mansions; away from scantiliy clad hypnotizing hookers writhing on water beds with jelly beans nestled in their belly buttons, past  fleets of exotic cars in order they ‘run about a bit’ …in a TV studio.

Eventually football matches will be decided . Presented by soulless lady-boys like Georgie Thompson and Ben Shepherd eyes glazed will host a game not dissimilar to Top Trumps. Maybe a quick fire question round.

‘Wayne, who was …Sir Matt Busby?!’

*silence the he grins awkwardly some dribble appears at the corner of his mouth* ‘Could do with a fag… errrr was him what did them adverts for the telephone in the 70’s?’

The camera cuts to Alan Hansen, ‘Noo, THAT’S shocking!’ *canned laughter*

Categories will include Boot Sponsor Value, Japanese Incontinence Towel Advert Revenues and Bodily Organ Upgrade Points reflecting that players have so much cash that they now opt to install better organs to enhance their game. You know, like those old computer driving games where you won cash on each race and could then upgrade your wheels or your suspension.

And so the Carling door shuts and what have we learned? Well, all those who are glad we are no longer in the competition have taken another step closer to a Top Trump Footy utopia.

    Gomes
    Kaboul
    Bassong
    Corluka
    BAE
    Sandro
    VDV
    Pavlyuchenko

    8/11 who are hardly kids.

Its not like Harry went out there to lose this game. He gave it more effort then the Europa AND it was 0-0 and decided on the lottery that is penalties.

Not exactly a disgrace vs a pretty strong Stoke.

We had no other choices in defence.

Anyone advocating risking Adebayor, Modric, Parker & Bale needs their head read IMO.

We had a sprinkling of first teamers,no more was necessary especially as we have Huddlestone, Lennon, Kranjcar, Dawson all injured. If they were fit maybe we would have had more options

2 things make me laugh about the reaction to all this:

    1. People are annoyed that we didn’t play a stronger side but then admit we’re 1 injury to Adebayor away from being impotent infront of goal.

    2. Had any of the key men played and been injured by Stoke’s bruisers, then Harry would be being hung by the same fans who now accuse him of not putting out a strong enough team.

Had Pav (International and first team squad member) put his penalty away, things may have been very different and we’d all be praising Harry’s masterstroke.

That is the fine margin of the situation. Lets not blow it up into anything deeper.

3 points at Wigan will vindicate the approach taken!

I’m only saying that Harry should’nt have selected either Pav or GDS last night. If we’re to play EL and CC cup games with an 2-3rd team of reserve defence and youth midfielders, then using those players with their attitude is actually detrimental to the younger players development. If we lose we lose, no problem with that whatsoever. Do have one with Gomes, Pav and Dos Santos Also risking BAE and Kaboul for 120 minutes didn’t entral me either, but credit to them both and big up for Corluka as well, for still giving it all-unlike some out there!

Well said that man! We spurs fans are never satisfied – on Sunday b4 kickoff over heard a conversation that even Ramos and Jol was better than the present crop and how Modders is a money grabber – not a new thng for Spurs surely with the following in mind Keane, Sherringham, Berbatov, Carrick ….
The only thing I would like to see Spurs win is the league – to do that we have to attract the best players to do that we have to be in Champions League consistently …. I grew up with forever hearing “Spurs are a cup side” I took that asa slight as it implied that Spurs lacked the consistency….
      Aim for the highest folks…

Follow the money … and it ain’t in the midweek also ran cups

The League cup always was a second rate compn for the also rans and the Europa is not a patch on the Cup Winners Cup – more like a re-run of the Cities fairs Cup.

These days it’s Premier 1st-4th, ECL and FA cup

why bother with the rest? One wonders how much moeny they make and what sort of crowds they draw

We are all now being told that professional footballers can only play 1 game per week otherwise they will suffer from fatigue, injuries etc. We have a wonderful squad at Spurs with strong cover in every position. Now is the time to pick the best 11 and play them, the whole squad has had some sort of experience now and should be able to cover injuries adequately.
It appears to me that not only do we have separate sponsors for league and cup games but we have separate teams. This us and them situation is not working for anyone’s confidence and should be nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand.

The kids will not benefit from playing with kids, how are they supposed to learn? Bring back the reserves I say and stop fucking around trying to beat settled sides with inexperienced experiments, if you are going to play kids, play a maximum of 3, 1 in defence, 1 in midfield and 1 up front…
Our kids are developing so slowly at the moment that when one of them does get a run in the first team he is in his early 20’s…..I remember when players were getting in to the first team at 16 and either thriving or ending up getting a proper job.

“I remember when players were getting in to the first team at 16”

      like who?

    • devonshirespur says:

Last season Harry played his favs for most games and come Jan/Feb they were knackered and injured, form dipped and we failed to make the promised land.

Everyone said he should rotate more and give the kids a chance…some even accuse him of only playing youth (Bale/Rose/Sandro) when injuries dictated.

Many others cried “give Pav/GDS a chance”.

Now he plays 7 or 8 senior players (all first XI last season) with a few youth and some fringe players given the chance to impress and he gets hammered by fans.

If he put out our best XI last week, would we have been purring on Sunday like we did?

If they then all played again last night, what kinda game would we expect vs Wigan.

Wigan, who we took 1 point from last season, is one of those must win games because (a) we have to beat teams like that, and (b) dropped points last season vs Wign, WBA, WHU , Blackpool made the difference.

For some Harry can do no right.

      • Billy Legit says:

Last season we got tossed out of both domestic cup competitions early doors (conceding 4 in the process in both games).

        Did we finish 4th?

Rotation seems to be a smokescreen for some of the other commentators on this blog. They just want 4th place and to hell with everything else.

      • Colin SC says:

Yup preferably by about 8 goals …. (ahhhh memories)..

  • Reynir says:

oh my god , i thought liverpool fans were stupid , but you lot really top that with ease. Saying all last season that harry should rotate , harry should give the kids a chance , harry should do that and this … When harry does this and that you asholes go crazy . The game yesterday was even and we could have won it just like stoke , wich had almoust a full team. That means in my opinion that our youngsters are almoust better then stoke first team. The crap players yesterday like Gomes Pav and Gio all have had there chances to shine and can now shut the fuck upp and start looking for new homes because they are not good enough for spurs. Livermore , carroll , luongo can go home proud and build on the experience they got from yesterdays game.

    • Parklaner says:

      agreed

    • Hartley says:

We said that Arry should do that and this? And then Arry does this and that? No wonder we go crazy, we wanted him to do that and this, not this and that, will he never learn? :hae:

    • Highgatespur says:

Just for the record I think GDS did find a new home then levy and HR pulled the rug…. the lad can hardly be lamed…

      • Highgatespur says:

the last word should be ‘blamed’ – time for a new keyboard !!!

        • Essexian76 says:

Erm.. I think his new home of choice would’ve bought us in 3m, as opposed to a potential 13m move that he turned down! You cannot excuse or make excuses for this lightweight, he’s a waste of space and a disgrace to himself.

  • Kash says:

I think Arry should be given a shot at the England managers job. It would mean we get a manager and mascot at the same time . 2 for the price of 1. There has to be cost save in there somwhere. Lovely Jubbly as Arry would say himself.
