Hoddle!

Good morning.

I thought it might be nice to have an upbeat blog before we lose at Newcastle. Only kidding about the losing bit. But the mood has been a bit so-so for some while really. Nothing specific to this two bob blog, rather just the Interlull and such.

So scouring the Internet and all the recent stuff didn’t quite do it for me, but I was prompted to share this after seeing it turn up on Spurs Odyssey and this is quite simply a lovely bit of footage.

Perhaps we could solicit a few memories of the man and get ourselves all geared up for Sunday?Yes, I think we can.

Hoddle was a pivotal figure in my formative years as a young Tottingham fan. And watching this film brings it all back. You look at the state of the pitches and the state of the tackles and yet his feet danced with the ball. If he was playing today he would embarrass so many players who are routinely cooed over and insanely overvalued financially. Glenn was the real deal.

Did you see him play? Did you do his hair? Did you once let him your static caravan in West Runton? Talk to me…

I was on the Kop for the 3-1 one of the relentless times Liverpool won the League and saw that amazing strike from behind the goal, like a missile that flew itself into the net, even the subsequent tonking couldn’t take the edge of it but the best was away to Everton in the relegation season, lost 4-0 (could have been 40-0) yet the HOME crowd applauded him throughout the game, and he was something like 19 then.

I haddock ‘omment to make, but I forgot it. Cod be on account of the drinking, or maybe salmon else entirely. Plenty of possible causes actually – stress, absentmindedness, carelessness. The drinking is just a red herring.

I guess I don’t really have a point here, just typing for the halibut. Holy carp, this is a waste of everyone’s time. You don’t have to be a brain sturgeon to figure that out.

What is the online equivalent of mooning – you know when you bend over anchovy backside? Someone needs to do that to me right now. If you had correction fluid for the internet I’m sure you’d all be whiting all of this out right now.

Anyhow, as I mentioned earlier, loved the hairdos in the video. They rock. I’m a real sucker for a mullet.

Time to skate on out of here before I get k’eeled. Anyhow, I’ve achieved my sole purpose already, and now I’m just floundering about trying to rack my brain for more puns. Is there some support grouper other I could join to deal with this obsessiveness? Oh dear. At least I can find some harmony by looking at the beautiful Jackson Pollock I have hanging at home.

Tuna in next week for more animal kingdom hilarity! I’m sure you’ll be perched on the edge of your chairs in anticipation.

P.S. I’m sorry if I offended and pikeys with insensitive commentary of Wet Spam ealier in the week.

Best player I ever saw. His best game? The UEFA cup match at WHL v Feyenoord when he put Johan Cruyff and a young Ruud Gullit in their place. A genius.

greenwood was right about hoddle when he said he needed confidence and that he should not be brought into the england team too soon. the problem was that after he brought him in, against bulgaria (hoddle put a cross right on to watson’s head and scored the other with a typical stroked shot int to top corner fro the edge of the area, greenwood then dropped him for several games and harmed his confidence. he was great for spurs in part because his confidence was always high given the adulation. my favourite goal, which emi seem to have taken off the internet, was against utd. yroath free kick from thirty yards, along the ground to hoddle on edge of area toward right hand side of goal, hodle flicks it inside with left foot and peels off to the very edge of area, ardiles flicks it back to him over the heads of two defenders and hoddle scissors kicks it across goal in to far top corner. in part i like it as ossie was involved, the only spurs player truly on hoddle’s wavelength

The evil seducer of my youth from an ocean away. Would probably be supporting the teams of my Yorkshire forebears without his corrupting genius. :-D
