Spurs Sign Their ‘Roy Keane’ At Long Last

Good morning.

Those bookmakers still trading this morning must be spitting feathers. It seems every Spurs fan this side of the Great Wall of China had lumped on the 3-1 win. But the real reason to be cheerful for all was Scott Parker.

We hear all the time about ‘winning mentality’. It’s a depressing truth that this mindset at Tottenham is something that seems too often be something that happens almost by chance. One of the main reasons that we have been driven out of our minds watching Spurs is having to watch too many of our lot seemingly, ‘not quite be in the mood for it.’ How many times have Spurs finished second best to a gang of assorted part time pipe fitters because the hackers and grunters simply wanted it more?

Exit the lethargy; enter PNB.

He quite simply has what it takes. QPR won’t be the toughest opposition he ever faces, but that is largely beside the point. If you walk out to every game ‘tailoring’ your performance to who is in front of you, you’re courting disaster. Manchester United haven’t achieved all they have achieved by playing like this against so and so or playing like that against whoever. It doesn’t work like that. The object of the exercise is to go out there and do ’em. Not to implement a strategy. This is football not the tweaking of a corporation’s stationary ordering policy.

And that’s Parker’s strength. He’s a good old fashioned, ‘which way are we playing and wallop’ merchant. Something we’ve been missing since oh I don’t know, MacKay?

I won’t dwell on his age or what might have been had he not been a twit and joined us sooner. You can either fall in love in the autumn of your years and enjoy what you have, or take the good out of your happiness by moping your days away.

    This cannot be right.

Redknapp was banging on about Parker all summer.

Spurs blogs were banging on about how shit he was.

So if Parker is good that would mean that Redknapp was right and the Spurs bloggers were wrong.

Sorry but I refuse to accept such far fetched nonsense.

There is a limit to my credulity you know.

Regardless of comparisons, this side are extremely well balanced for the way the game is played today. Full of flair, pace, a bit of bite and some good honest hard work – But what I’m enjoying is the way they are playing for each other. There is a genuine joy on the pitch and the way they celebrate together shows the unity in the side.

As Tummers pointed out earlier, the deadwood getting shipped out along with their discordant whining has done a huge amount of good, while Modders getting his head down and working hard has sent a massive message out to the whole squad.

Well done to Levy for holding firm over the summer and well done to the whole backroom staff for building such a strong spirit in the camp. As for Ade, I don’t think he’d drop back into his old ways now. I think he’s a completely different person to the arrogant swaggering fool that was at Ar5ena1. I’d say seeing a couple of your team mates killed would give anyone a different perspective on life and he comes across now as a sober, responsible professional. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a large part in the unity of the dressing room.

Let’s hope this level of play carries on. One things for certain – The likes of Lennon & Pav who have coasted a little at times now know exactly what’s required of them and it’s only their fault and loss if they don’t perform. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Jimmy Krankie when he returns to fitness.

I noticed the joy on all the players faces when the last goal went in and like you thought what a happy unit they appear to be.
I thought Sundays game was played in an excellent spirit and really well reffed by Mr Webb.
The players behaved in a sporting manner, with no cheating, diving, whining, no bad tackles, no red or yellow cards and after the game each manager praised his own players and the opposition.
      A real pleasure to watch.

Agreed, i cant remember the last time an opposing manager said he clapped when our third went in! Anyone know if barton has stopped his parker is overrated tweets yet!?

Barton tweeted that Modric is the best midfielder in the prem, so maybe indirectly he’s praising Parker on yesterdays showing

That is exactly what I meant: I have seen some very good displays from 63 to 2011 but almost ALL were due to one to three players showing their individual brilliance and not a comprehensive team in action. The first 45 was a team in action: the WHOLE team even Friedel was not screwing up by kicking but passing to the defenders and we help possession for I would guess 75-80% of that half. They wer being cut to pieces and it hasd NOTHING to do with them giving us so much room but it was our movement and passing.

After 45 Parker copped a real hit arround 45-50 and we just seemed to lose it in midfield while our FBs had to stay back and help out. I wonder if it was the injury to Parker (a head injury IIRC) that gave them this initiative? In addition, Modric seeemd less present in that period while both Bale & lennon had to drop back to help out the FBs. That usually means a loss of control of CMF. IMHO Parker played the last 45 with concussion: severely so for about 15-20 mins then he picked up.

On a slight tangent, it’s interesting reading the Anton Ferdinand statement. Reading between the lines (i.e. Not coming straight out and saying ‘It’s all cool’ with The Dog Terry), it looks like he’s fired both barrels at him at the FA. If that’s the case, regardless of his own past, I’d say a medal for Fedinand should be in the post. Fingers crossed.

Terry (and most of the prem) knows his own game is going further down the shitter every week. The slower and more beligerent he gets, the more I will enjoy watching him suffer.

    • Astromesmo says:

Strangely enough, the sight of Terry faceplanting the turf at Second Hand Fridge even made watching L’Arse win on MOTD at the weekend palatable.

It was indeed the only time I’ve cheered when Arsenal have scored. Cheering between the uncontrollable belly-laughing.

      I second that motion. :daumen:

        Third! ;-)

*The only time in my entire existence i didn’t mind the scum winning*

I wouldn’t bother it like looking in a chamber pot and trying to guess which t**d is bigge.
I actually congratulated a scum friend about the win as my curtent hate list has the 1919 cheats well down the list: 1) MU; 2) Ch; 3 Lpool; 4) 1919 cheats 5)MC (only becasue of their mooooooooooonnnnnneeeeeeeey but I do remeber a few losses 1-5 2-6 etc 6) yet to be decided with afew candidates..possibly NU but I am so used to feeling sorry for them

And interestingly enough Roman is in court right now challenging a lawsuit that could cost him a fair lump if he loses-Talksport were saying it’s in the billions so it’s probably a twenty five quid cab fare he forgot to pay
