Hello young lovers.

Well yesterday’s blog was fun wasn’t it? Well only another seven days to go until the Manchester City game so best I use the time wisely and rehearse lots and lots of ever so glowing and grateful rhetoric to scatter gently into my appraisal.

Arry was in France today. Specifically to watch Loic Remy. He told Radio 5Live this earlier today. Redschnapps  has personally scouted him before. That was two years ago. Since then Aitch revealed that THFC have had a few people watch him. On and off.

Will this happen? Well every window, up pops a name, a supposed Tottingham target that is used as merely a bargaining chip to up the ante whilst genuine negotiations tick along nicely in the background.

Would Remy be a good thing if we signed him? Probably. But let’s be intelligent people and focus upon what we know. Flogging Defoe isn’t on the agenda. Pav’s departure is beset by all the usual Cagney death scene financial issues. The Daily Mail have Loric’s worth at £20m. My valuation having scoured a little further is closer to £13m, possibly £15m. Now who says I’m not cut from Levy & Co cloth?

Potentially far more exciting news is the possibility we’re interested in the Newcastle United goalie, Tim Krul. Sure it’s a resurfacing rumour but let’s hope it has legs. He’s without doubt well worth pursuing and having Brad involved in training and mentoring is such an obvious winning combination.

Looking forward to the game with City, although not sure how our forward line will shape up.
Good to see Henry assist Swansea’s third goal today.
The goons have conceded more away goals than any other team in the PL this season.

  • Hartley says:

Jordan Rhodes would be less of a gamble and more suited to our wage structure, would also take Krul if we could part ex Gomes, and if Arry wants to ‘avoid’ his upcoming battle with Her Majesty and stay abroad for the time being we could do worse than Brendan Rodgers at the helm….just sayin :shifty:

    • Hartley says:

Ryan Taylor would also be a fantastic buy, he can cover for Azza, take a free kick and a corner and knows where the goal is….

      • UnkleKev says:

There was a time when Bale and van der Vaart could take a free kick. Unfortunately the Tottingham malaise seems to have wormed this talent out of them.

    • Razspur says:

The Swans were impressive, passed well, and broke well, how Rodgers has them playing so sweetly is almost a miracle. Will the bigger teams nip in to poach their stars ?

      • Hartley says:

That’s my point about Rodgers, they don’t have any stars….he’s got a very average bunch of players, playing football. They pass teams to death and when they do lose pocession 9 times out of 10 they win it back within seconds. We were fortunate to come away with a point, the woolwich were fortunate to come away with a one goal defeat and many more teams will suffer much worse….

Think you’ll find some of those Swans will turn in to proper players. Britton for one could be a good buy for us.

        • Hartley says:

I have a feeling that Caulker may be wearing a Spurs shirt next season and I could live with Vorm as well…

          @Hartley (11.34)

I am reminded of all the cribbing that went on when we could “only” draw at Swans. This was a team that until yesterday, had only conceded 4 goals and lost just once at home – and that was to Manure.

Swansea were the better team that day, and only got a 1-1 draw. Bit like us on Saturday really.

Your point about a ‘stars’ is exactly the point I’ve been trying to say for an eternity. Big name player’s come with baggage and a hefty price tag and don’t always deliver. We’re paying about 70k toward Ade’s weekly wage, yet he’s not our player and we cannot plan around him in the long term. We saw on Saturday a player in Fletcher do exactly the same job but more effectively. I’m not suggesting we should buy him specifically, but there are plenty of players out there who can play, and would want to play for us given the chance. We’re talking about Remy, who is a speedy cross between Henry and A.N.Other by all accounts, but where would he play in our current set-up? As it’s Ade who holds the ball and forages, defending from the front as I’d call it, if Remy can’t do that, then what’s the point? The best we’ve played this season without doubt was against Liverpool, when Defoe and Ade partnered and the midfield looked balanced and cohesive, in other words like a team! Quick efficient passing and Modric taking the responsibility for creativity for probably the best game he’s played before or since and without VDV I might add. It’s not a dig at Rafa, but star names don’t always equate to or make good or great teams. It’s all about balanced sides with players having the courage to express themselves and managers having the self belief to encourage them to play to his instruction and be prepared to learn from past mistakes, much like Rodgers has with a rag-tag and bobtail bunch of no-marks.

:daumen: What a post Sir Ian, may i say you have excelled yourself. 8O

        • Hartley says:

I agree with almost all of what you have said my friend… ;-)

        • melcyid says:

I usewd to like rag tag and bobtail too. :daumen:

        • Razspur says:

It`s almost a “Wall of the Oval Office” type of post, worries me, either you have completely “Dried Out” or your Daughter has taken over the Script Writing.
Whatever Top Top Post Sir Ian of Essex.

          I doff my cap Sir.

    • Fatfish says:

      Not criticising, just questioning.

You’d rather spend a few million on an unproven player, that wasn’t that successful at Ipswich but is doing well in League 1 (admittedly scoring a lot of goals), over a player who has proved himself at CL level & regularly scored goals in one of the top leagues in Europe.

OK, each to their own. I’d rather gamble £20m on Remy. That’s the level we’re at now. Sign Rhodes by all means and loan him out, but we need now, now. Not future now.

      • Hartley says:

I know what you’re saying but stick Remy in the side now at 20 million and if nothing happens what does Twitchy do, he carries on playing him coz he was the one who signed him, he even went to watch him so can’t even pre-blame the chairman. Put Rhodes in the side at 3 or 4 million and he doesn’t score, we can go back to plan A and tell the press that he’s one for the future…

        • Razspur says:

Do not fall for Harrys Blarney, He said he was going to cast an eye over Remy, now why on Earth tell everyone ? He is not the target but JC is ! Samba will be in Lilywhite by Friday.

        • Fatfish says:

Remy looks class. Something will happen with him in the side. If we act quickly enough.

French league 1 is a quality league & Remy is one of the best in it. Sometimes you have to gamble.
Sometimes even the best don’t work out (Torres, Carroll, Walcott) = sorry, taking the piss there.

        • Razspur says:

With Marseilles still in the Champions League, they would be crazy to entertain a poss t/fer.

        • essexian76 says:

@ Fatfish, I understand your enthusiasm for Remy, and have just seem his goals on SSN.However I watched him play against Arsenal in the recent CL fixtures who aren’t exactly a solid defensive outfit and he was pretty average to say the least. There could be a myriad of reasons for his poor showing, but one of them could be simply, he ain’t all that-if we could swap or PX Pav-then maybe, but we’d need to break the bank if we’re to get him in this window, that’s for sure

        • Phil McAvity says:

Exactly, can’t see them doing business with us until the summer unless we offer silly money.

  • Razspur says:

It was funny to see Henrys reaction to Mertesakers attempted shot for goal from 6yds out, they should show it in the opening sequences all season.

  • david says:

Is Levy going to give HR 30 million to spend when HR could be in the Tony Adams big house by the end of the month ?

  • mikey says:

With Van Pervert playing the red Mancs it looks like Europa cup next season. The bin dippers and the barcoads will overtake them soon, if not this weekend. Happy days! :winke:
