Good afternoon.

Ryan ‘Half’ Nelson then. 34 years of age and the burning question of the day has to be, ‘ eh? ‘ Easy I guess to knock him. Let’s face it, many of us didn’t see PNB working, but this strikes me as ambitious beyond belief.

Bassong on loan I get. He’s worth pursuing to see if his potential can ‘unlocked’. That makes sense. But to replace him with an injury prone gentleman… don’t we already have those spots covered?

I managed to find this radio interview with 3News.co.nz Which you can hear HERE

    Seasoned campaigners…..
    Try useless crocked never-weres
Which of course is just fine for their future bit-part role
Great man-management arm-round-the-shoulder-style-approach, aha, everyone bar Friedel, King & BAE discontent or going somewhere else,
January window sucks and should not be used…
Is Andy Booth still playing, maybe a player/coach role could be offered?
Seriously, The signings/loans seem reasonable from business pow, just thought we were into football and pride as well…

Most of us were wrong re the signings of Parker and Friedel so maybe we are wrong re Nelsen and Saha.
I just think most of us thought we may never be in a better position to win the league and one or two major signings would have enhanced our prospects, hence the disapointment.

Got to agree with you, it would not be the first time someone’s handmedowns made us look smart. It’s not so much the age that worries me, as the fact they are about as durable as an Airfix kit without glue.

      • Father Ted says:

you always had to buy glue for an airfix separately…

Can’t say I have followed Nelsen’s career much but have often thought Saha was a classy player and this week I have heard Rio Ferdinand and Martin Keown both say he is one of the best CF they have played against.
The worry is that they are referring to the Saha of 5 years ago rather than now.
If he can get and remain fit, he could be a very useful impact player.

Thinking this one through, how crazy are we to have let Woodgate go (19 games this season), and then sign Nelsen? That’s the equivalent of letting J**** go and replacing him with that Japanese bloke we had.

  • spurlative says:

Simon Dawkins is 24 already!? Interesting squad with Bentley as well, didn’t see that coming. Speculators, all of you! Nelsen is to us what woodgate is to stoke. Saha is to us what a milf is to a teenage boy. Not someone you marry but u’ll have caus you can’t stop yourself.. Or something. Anyway, bad analogies aside, we have possibly taken a little gamble but with thud coming back and krankie looking like a player again.. The players who have left are no real loss. Pav wasn’t even getting a game. I don’t really know what the fuss is about? We did actually go for Remy if those reports are true so its not for lack of trying. If that is true then levy still backs purchases even if harry ends up in the slammer or goes for england. Don’t think levy is concerned about that. Besides he probably has his replacement in site already. Would modders or bale still want to leave if we had mourinho as coach? By the way I don’t think mourinho would suit us)

    • SpurredoninDublin says:

If Nelsen does as well for us as Woody has for Stoke, I will be happy.

Regarding HR’s replacement, I agree with you and I believe he has someone waiting in the wings. Crazy guess: Klinsman.

Regarding Remy, it would have been “the signing of the window” if it had come off.

      • Spurstacus says:

I have wanted Klinsman at the lane since before Harry. I reckon we will get him one day, but he’s taken over as US coach I believe. So probably not yet.

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

He’s not having a great deal of success there. His record is 3-1-4. In other sports, managers who don’t have a 50% win rate are usually shown the door quickly. Looking at his stats, this is the only time he has been below the 50% mark. Apparently though, he does like living in US. Perhaps some of our US contributors might speculate if his job is under threat.

I would liked to have got Rodgers, but I can’t see that now he has signed a new contract.

        • seattlespursguy says:

His job is not under threat. He was brought in to do for the US what he did for Germany–remake the system and put the emphasis on bringing youth through. It won’t be a quick job and he’ll be given time.

Of course, he may want to move if it isn’t going well, so you never know.

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

          Thanks for that Seattle.

    • TMWNN says:

Some fans are a sentimental bunch, nevermind that a bloke being paid £50k a week can barely stand up in a game, he gets a wall of emotional outpouring the likes of which haven’t been seen since ‘The People’s Princess’ had a spot of bother in a Parisian tunnel.

There are some still with the belief that ***** will fulfill his ‘potential’.

      • SpurredoninDublin says:

Don’t get the relevance of your post to the sub-thread. Are you having a Sid Trotter moment?

        • Essexian76 says:

Oh, the relevance is that he’s being paid 50k per week of course, because that’s relevant if you haven’t got anything relevant to say I guess?

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

The problem is, that I don’t know who he means is being paid £50k, and who is being sentimental.

The thing about a Sid Trotter moment, is that he usually starts the sub thread so it doesn’t have to make sense.

  • lecoqhardi says:

I think things could go horribly wrong. If Kyle and Gareth catch gout off Ledley we’re in trouble. It’s the strangest 25 man squad you’ll ever see, like pub quiz night when you write down ‘amusing’ answers just to fill in the blanks where you hadn’t got a clue. Bentley, Dawkins, Khumalo? Mickey Mouse.
Let’s all meet up again in May and see what the outcome was.
