More Front Than Southend

Good morning.

What’s been amusing in all this that the minority that still support Arry are as outraged as he is that that anyone would have the audacity to wish him gone.

And so the great pretender has come out swinging. What a stark contrast to the carefree international playboy of the western world schtick we had to suffer when he was waltzing on our screens; telling people he’d bring in Scholesy, give Walcott a chance.

“This is an outrage; an absolute liberty for people to be putting around this kind of rumour on the internet.

It is not true, there is not a chance I will resign. Why should I? I have a year left on my contract.”

Interesting wording. Devil’s in the detail.

‘On the Internet’ he says, clearly gutted that despite all his extensive whoring and schmoozing he did with the press Arry the dinosaur overlooked the medium most preferred by the vast majority of the human race.

Interesting that The Sun online has chosen to completely bury the story – you have to click on the club crest to unearth it.

‘There is not a chance I will resign,’ he says. Well I never said you had. I had everything crossed you’d gone. I actually used the word ‘vomited’. How you left didn’t interest me. That said, a regular reader does have what I am given to understand is a perfectly serviceable gents bicycle for sale.

At around the £15 mark, it seems good value.

Arry has supposedly armed himself up with Paul Stretford the football agent that caused havoc in the corridors at Old Trafford negotiating for Wayne Rooney for the meeting. Remember the tactic there? Wazza off to City?

22 November 2011If we keep up this form we’ll win the league”

8th February 2012  Capello steps down as England manager.

23rd March 2012Absolute nonsense. That’s the biggest load of nonsense I’ve ever heard in my life. They don’t care whether I’m manager next year.

They wouldn’t lose any sleep over that.’ ‘Footballers play the game, they come in every day and train. Someone else walks in here tomorrow-the king is dead, long live the king.

They don’t worry. They don’t think ‘Harry is going to England’ or ‘he is going to go somewhere else”.

5th June 2012  “It’s not a case of me looking for security.

What it’s about is players knowing you’ve got a year left on your contract, and knowing that it doesn’t work, basically. I think it’s a situation of ‘well he might not be here next year.’

5th June 2012 “I think it’s overrated what people say about Champions League.”

When all the clucking is done the bottom line is that Arry’s delusional episode when he believed he was going to be the next England manager cost THFC ballpark £30M. Anyone who wants to debate that in a coherent manner, here I am.

So the attempts thus far to bully the Board with threats of offers elsewhere and possible player unrest by our tight lipped supremo won’t be given houseroom. Only a man as plain stupid as Arry would try and hold someone up with an empty gun.

That CL quote has been taken out of context.

I think that they definitely have a lot to discuss and I hope they make the best decision for Spurs.

    • Harry Hotspur says:

It’s not out of context. How can it be? Please!

“If we get Champions League football then that would be great, that is what we are looking for”

      2nd March 2012.

Has that been taken out of context too?

      • Werthers says:

The CL is overrated comment relates to players using the fact that a club isn’t in the champions leagues as an excuse for leaving. It’s not an indication of our teams ambitions.

        • LLL says:

You are right. But in the wider context of the piece, he was also having a dig at the club. He was arguing that Chelsea would have been signing players if they hadn’t got CL, because they pay big wages. He kept saying that if you pay the right money, the players will come. The subtext to that is that we don’t pay comparatively big wages, which is something Redknapp’s been moaning about since we got here. ‘Well you know, we were gonna sign Aguero, but we couldn’t afford the wages, we don’t pay that kind of wage here’. And so on…

        • Werthers says:

@LLL – fair point, but I wouldn’t take that as being a slight on the club, it’s just Redknapp being Redknapp. The way he sees it, the higher the wages you pay the better the player you get (or keep), whether the club can afford it or not. The difference at Spurs is that he’s up against a very strong chairman, rather than a yes man buddy who is willing to bankrupt the club.

      • BrizzleSpur says:

CL comment was made in context to acquiring new players. He never said it wasn’t important to the fans or club. He said that it’s not CL alone that attracts players.
If Swansea made the CL but only offered £30k pw the biggest players wouldn’t take a pay cut. It’s the money. It’s always about money. ALWAYS.

Consider me in the minority too! If only because up until the England fiasco we were having a great season. Even after all those shenanigans (and Redknapp was certainly distracted during all that) we still finished fourth, something we’ve only managed with the current manager during the premier league years. Indeed if it wasn’t for UEFA favouring incumbents over up and coming clubs, then we’d rightfully have a Champions League and nothing to complain about.
The main reason to back Redknapp though, is who would come in and do better (who is available)? Martinez, AVB – seriously?! Redknapp has the squad with him and has shown that he can get us playing well and winning.
If we can have a season where the squad is improved on and there are no outside influences (flirtations from media/FA over England job for example) then who knows what we could achieve!

  • Binzi says:

Think i’m living in a parallel universe.

This is just my opinion, don’t want to preach, but…….Cannot see any sense in getting rid of a manager that has led us to our best results/Prem finishes in modern times, to replace him (realistically) with an average/untested in prem/inexperienced manager.

I realise he is a clown with regard to the media, but surely lesson in “when not to open your mouth” costs less than £3m compensation??

Or are we trying to become a mid table team again?

    • LLL says:

When we replaced Ramos with Redknapp, what was he? A fire-fighter who had had some success beating relegation and fluked a solitary cup with Portsmouth with a squad and set-up which rapidly bankrupted them.

So what was he exactly? I would argue a below average football manager.

Moyes? He’s one of the incredibly few managers to have achieved consistent results over a long stretch of time in the PL era. And always whilst operating on a budget way below ours and many other competitors.

So yeah, by comparison he would seem ‘above average’ to me and could likely take the club in a better direction.

Let’s not forget that a large reason why there has been so little investment in the squad over the past couple of years is due to Redknapp’s spending spree in the January 2009 window. At the time it was a price worth paying to stave off relegation. But really, even with the ‘hotch potch’ squad we had at the time, relegation was an easy bullet to dodge for even someone with as limited a skill set as Redknapp (‘Go out there and fucking run around a bit’). And the cost and subsequent losses accrued through that expenditure has seen Levy adopt a much more careful approach in the transfer market ever since, especially in relation to Redknapp’s targets – which are often frankly ridiculous (Cole, Beckham etc etc etc).

      • Binzi says:

Some valid points in your response, but anyone replacing Ramos would be step up……however due to HR getting us to 4th/5th consistently, we now need someone with a much higher calibre to progress (or stick with HR). I like the Moyes idea as I don’t think he will do worse, just undecided if he will do better.

        • LLL says:

To me, he would only need to achieve the same results as Redknapp and he would already be vastly preferable. Why? Because he’s proven to be loyal, cultured and discreet. Three words not in Redknapp’s phrase book.

      • Johnny says:

        @ LLL
        Amen to that.

    • Carlos says:

No mate. You are firmly in reality. You hit the mail on the head. I am not sure if it’s an age thing, but I remember all the managers we had before. Apart from el tel or pleat. He’s miles ahead. Don’t think people remember mid table footie.

  • Phil McAvity says:

It’s not ‘Arry that you lot should be slating, who in their right mind is going to walk away from an estimated £3m in wages? I bloody wouldn’t!

It’s Levy that needs a kick up the arse here. Just either get rid or offer him a new deal, one way or the other please! Dragging this out is no good to anyone.

  • bringontheclowns says:

Whats to debat? The assumption your making is that we’d get as far in the CL as we did last time, which shows alot of faith in Harry but its just as likely we wouldnt have got past the group stage. Unless of course you have a crystal ball H and given your predictive track record so far that aint worth diddlysquat.Everythig else is just ase covering by you for getting it wrong. The other thing is that you keep saying 30M, but that’s revenue not what the club would actually make. So your argument don’t even make sense financially unless your doing a smoke and mirror you keep saying Harry does.

    • Harry Hotspur says:

The £30m is a conservative estimate based upon the Deloitte figures. That doesn’t include progressing further than we did last time and all revenue streams (ie merchandise) going bonkers.

      • bringontheclowns says:

conservative estimate of IF we got as far as last time then? And it’s so deloittees figures are revenue not profits the club might have made? Then in that case looking at what our net profit has been in the past, we’ve lost about £250k. Levy makes that back in one player deal. If thats what your hanging your hat on Harry its pretty thin.

        • Topspur100 says:

You’ve made an excellent point as I do feel that the financial loss as currently being used here has been wildly inflated. The CL brings expenses both in bonus’s and direct overheads and your figure in respect of the actual profitability we may have lost by missing out is based on our last experience uncannily accurate.
