Huddlestone Loaned To Stoke [subject to medical]

Good morning.

Another tale to tug at the heart strings of some.

Tommy ‘Smack My Ketchup’ Huddlestone is set to join Stoke Anti Football Club on a season long loan this morning. My view is that he won’t be missed. My patience with the guy evaporated some time back.

Yes, the touch of an angel, but for all the dreamy 30 yard shots how many were ever on target? I don’t have the stats but I’ve been watching Spurs continuously throughout Tom’s time with us and the answer is in single figures. If he had truly wanted to knuckle down and improve he could have done so by now.

He was England U16, U17,U19, U20, U21 and in the last four years he’s struggled to make 3 senior appearances. Less iPod, less tattoos, less haircut, less hard done by Tweeting and …more football.

I wouldn’t wish a loan move to Stoke on many people, but this will be a sink or swim job. If he wants a career rather than a salary then he needs to apply himself.

An attacking midfielder has to run a game. When things are not going well he needs to kick it up a notch.Hudd never did that,at least in any major games (I can think of)
My fear is that AVB is looking for more of a system player and not for a creative force.
Finding a Silva type is not easy, but we need that style of player IMHO

    • Astro Spur says:

As per usual with most of your points Ronnie, i am in complete agreement. The question is, will we get that type of midfielder in time?

      • Ronnie Wolman says:

Its hard to assess.Sahin seems a really good head player.
This Wilian looks ok but different.More of a Nani type.Talent and athlete. Sahin looks to be more of a ball player who can create.Looks like he has good timing.
Hard to know if it works out in the premier league or will work to AVB system but for For creativity I like a player who can deliver a killer ball

Modric is a different kettle of fish
        He runs,passes,runs,passes,runs,passes

We have Modric still to bargain with and they have Sahin. It could be a good money+loan deal
and spend the money on a Llorente if poss and if not I would take Berba (if I had to)

I think we would have a fantastic team

        • Ronnie Wolman says:

Infact I would say that even Berba could play a creative role.He has the talent. The problem is if he is fcuked in the head now.
          He def has fantastic talent

        • Astro Spur says:

It’s so difficult to get an intelligent creative midfield player that can keep the ball, keep those passes going forward and produce that killer pass on a regular basis. I’m not sure wether we can replace modric with a like for like type player to be honest so it will be interesting to see what sort of lineup we end up with at the end of August. I would assume that it will be a strong attacking front four with 2 central defening midfield players a la Sandro, Parker, and go for power and pace rather than slow building creativity, but who knows?

      • Spurstacus says:

That is a worrying and slightly dangerous admission.

  • Ronnie Wolman says:

Mourinho quoted in the Independent says re Sahin “It is all the same to me, though, which club he goes to. I just hope that it happens soon for him, as it is best for him. Liverpool, Arsenal or Spurs – I have no preference.”

He put Tottenham in the frame. We are negotiating for selling Modric. He is talking to Levy. Why would hemention Tottenham?

    The plot thickens.

  • Bruxie says:

I agree with the comment above about Hudd being a good player in a mediocre ‘Spurs side.

I want rid of this type.

I want winners in a good side.
And then excellent players in a great side.

Hudd does not fill that bill.

Squad improvement. Squad improvement. Relentless policy and nothing to do with sentiment.

Ask Rednose. Look what he’s doing to Nani.

    • LLL says:

Right. The only issue there is you actually have to have a squad. If we get someone in better, no problem. Why are you so sure that we will?

Honestly, people whine so much about player’s lack of loyalty but it seems fans reserves of loyalty run even thinner.

      • jfdit says:

problem is we’ve been stockpiling players for years, we’ve still got players at the club deemed surplus to requirements in 2008 ffs

clear the deadwood and build a smaller leaner better squad

      • Bruxie says:

My loyalty is with the Club.

Heros come and go. Berbatov? Modric? Gazza? Hoddle?

        Get real.

Get rid of the wasters. The heros will come and make a couple or four of seasons worhtwhile – then go and seek out the gravytrain.

If we want to be as good as others then we ned to become the hard nosed, constantly improving model that we seem to be developing into.

        No room for sentiment.

My saying of the day? Get Rid.

      • Bruxie says:

        @lll

I’m doing nothing of the sort.

I’ve seen all sorts of players leave and have always seen replacemants come in.

        Some not always better.
But now, I see a definite improvement…Modric aside.

You are being simplistic if you think that better football brains than ours are not working overtime to improve the squad.

        Chill.

        :-D

        • LLL says:

          Now you see definite improvement?

          Where? ? ?

          Who are Thud and Dawson’s (improved)replacements ? ? ?

Can you see the future? ? ?
If so can you also advise as to why are they leaving when Jenas and Bentley are still here?

        • Bruxie says:

          Dawson.

          Thud.

          Any top four takers?

          No.

        • Bruxie says:

          Vertonghen.

Replaced King/Dawson. And plays left back at international level.

          Caulker back from loan.

£9m for Daws is a cracking deal. Would you pay that to get him back?

        • LLL says:

Dawson, I can understand the deal. He is the wrong age for Levy and it’s an attractive fee. I get that. I still think we are short in central defence now and think we will be in for stormy weathers when our high pressing possession game doesn’t work and we have to camp out in our box and defend corners and what have you.

Thud on the other hand, I don’t get at all. Currently we have Parker who is crocked and highly likely to fall foul of AVB’s cull once he’s fit anyway (he is also pretty immobile), we have Livermore who in spite of your obvious excitement about someone who can scurry around a bit is no great footballer at all (top 10-15 any takers? I would strongly doubt it), and Sandro who is a good ball winner. Oh, and Jenas who you also, somewhat embarrassingly, have attempted to argue is better than Thud. I.e. we are light in the position and don’t really have anyone capable of passing the football to an opponent with any degree of regularity or success. If shipping out the only player on the books who does that job strikes you as improving the team then you should put the pipe down.

        • LLL says:

          * I mean team-mate, not opponent. Sandro and Livermore proved they were quite capable of passing to an opponent. Scotty-2-Hotty is pretty top notch in that regard to.

        • Phil McAvity says:

How is Parker immobile? He’s got the best engine out of all our CM’s!

        • LLL says:

In the same sense that Thud is – he’s really slow basically. Yes, he runs around more, but that is his game – running around flying into tackles. Doesn’t means he’s particularly athletic.

    • Astro Spur says:

      Agreed!

    • jfdit says:

too true, I saw nani shank another cross behind the goal the other night and thought he’d be in the stands for a bit

I also think shrek is on borrowed time as well, his form has dipped alarmingly and he’s starting to miss chances he’d normally bury

      • Bruxie says:

About time you got a decent avatar JFDIT!

Let’s see how SAF deals with a loss to Everton.

He’ll be on their cases like we would hope OUR manager would be.

No nicetities – drop the overpaid barstewards!
        :pirat:

        How’s the Labs?

        • jfdit says:

hi bruxie, angry nutter with hand in the air sums me up fine thanks, go rid of my snowman as he melted ;-)

SAF will react as winners do, shake it up and come out fighting

Lost both of my labs now mate, very sad, one to cancer another to epilesy :-( no more dogs for me at the moment but I might get another one – I do miss having a nutter running round the house causing mayhem

      • kojac says:

are you writing off utd :ninja:

        • jfdit says:

no koj, apologies for delay in response, adjournment to milf refreshment centre

utd will be up there but they were there for the taking last season and the same weaknesses are still there, central midfield and defence still old and injury prone

rooney is playing @ 70%of potential since his contract spat imo

      • Spurstacus says:

I think you might be right re Rooney.

  • kojac says:

crikey lads he is out on loan, maybe call back in jan,i don’t know

it is up to AVB to in/out what he wants,if he gets it wrong and 2 from 8’s he will most likely start walking the plank, this is football

we have 4 games we should be winning hands down coming up,all will be revealed after those that’s for sure

i really hope we get a couple of willian, pjanic, johnson, sahin types in to create/score going to be the battle of insane wages going on no doubt

  • kojac says:

the J**** man was on the bench wasn’t he,is bentley injured he wasn’t a sub but we will need some ropa dopa squad, looks like carroll, falque and those boys will really get some dopa action again

with transfers/loans, players and management/levy will talk and discuss things avb will have different plans and prefer different players it doesn’t always have to be bad/negative and of course budget/wages come into it as ever we have to wit until the window shuts before we can really start whining

although sunderland must be interested in someone but maybe bentley wages really are too crazy
