Hotspur’s Hunches #5b

Good morning.

The second wave of the weekend’s Premier League pickings. Yesterday’s hunches were a mixed bag accuracy wise. Laudrup’s remark about bungs to encourage teams to win matches was clearly a cry for help. I was closer on the Cheatski game who struggled, dived and dived again to nick a goal against the Potters.

I was pleased to see Southampton get back on the their feet. Villa fans will spend today on the settee eating ice cream, watching Bridget Jones’ DVDs. The Baggies ground out a goal in what looked like an uninspiring business from the bits I caught. I got the West Ham game wrong and the Fulham win panned out.

Liverpool vs Manchester United

Whiners vs Gloaters. Brendan Rodgers is looking for his first Premier League win. He’d be better off putting a ‘Missing – Have You Seen My…’ card in his local newsagent’s window than asking Sluralix for it. I don’t like either of these two, a nil nil draw would be the best outcome for the table but I’d like Liverpool to get beaten. Prediction? Away win by two goals.

Newcastle vs Norwich

Tough gig this for the Canaries. I’ve a soft spot for Delia’s mob, their fans are a decent bunch and they will travel in number, brightening up Tyneside with their old school scarves and crazy vowels. Pardew’s gang will quite possibly destroy them. A home win, maybe 3 0r 4 nil.

Manchester City vs Arsenal

City’s performance against Real Madrid was seriously uninspiring stuff. They remind me of that army of brooms marching in Fantasia. You raise your eyebrows, but it’s not enjoyable viewing. Arsenal’s form isn’t as rock solid as they might have you believe. So far they have beaten Liverpool and a self-combusting Southampton.Home win, 3-1.

Tottenham vs QPR

The longer the wait for kick off has gone on the more cautiously optimistic I am becoming. My ‘win by a goal’ mantra is edging out into thoughts of a cheeky 2-0. Could we get three? I really have a good vibe about Dempsey and whatever happens it would be great to see him get on the score sheet.

QPR stuffed the swans 3-0 and drew0-0 with the racsists so a good win for us as we find our feet.well pleased for the lads as i reckon we have a good bunch that are getting to know each other and there is potential for greatness in some of them.verts tacle was a masterclass, unfortunately might of been a pen if it was Dawson.Anyone notice how sandro winkled out the tackle from defence put the ball forward from whence we scored. We have the potential to have the most miserly defence in the league soon.

sigurdsson has to be dropped or played in another role, he just isnt working. I like him and would love for him to succeed but he’s just not clicking with lennon & defoe.
I would have Hudds in his place, much better at intercepting the play from an advanced position, his range of passing is superior & his lack of mobility is less likely to harm us. Siggy just isnt cutting the mustard.

Still have to say AVB is too reactionary & not so visionary. Playing Bale left back, when he has Vert & some great central defenders was a shambles again!

He needs an experienced hand at DOF that knows things, bring in Harry as DOF!

Siggy, Siggy, Siggy, what are we going to do with you?

He looked lost in the first half and bereft of ideas at times. (impact sub until he finds form)

Sandro played his worst half of football since joining us. QPR made us look like a non-league team in an FA Cup tie. Running around like headless chickens and gifting the ball back far too often.

Movement off the ball was non-existent to receive a pass which was the core issue. Players seemed more concerned with holding a certain position rather than creating space and allowing free flowing football.

Verts and Friedel were the only two that could hold their heads up high after that first half. The rest were totally disorganized.

Thankfully common sense prevailed and a simple switch to allow Bale to attack averted an otherwise very painful 90 minutes. I was again extremely impressed by Verts and his ball carrying abilities. Pace wasn’t an issue either as he kept up with the boy wonder a few times at full tilt.

Looking forward to the Mancs game, hopefully with a fresh approach and lineup more akin to the second half effort. I’d start with that exact second half line-up if Naughts is still out and especially if Valencia plays.
