€13M? …Yes Please

Image for €13M? …Yes Please

Good afternoon.

We’ve been linked with someone I think we ought to go all out to buy. Swoop audaciously for, that sort of thing. PSV winger Dries Mertens is the name in the frame and he ticks more boxes than a YouGov poll addict.

For a start, he’s bi-wingal. Which for those of you struggling, is a word I just made up to describe a player able to play effectively on both wings.Which would be fantastic news for Spurs and less fantastic news for er.. say… Aaron Lennon.

Then there’s the fact that he’s Belgian. Which if you look at nations as if they were race yards, then you have to say that this particular stable is in terrific form. That makes him an international team mate of Jan Vertonghen and if Dries was looking for hints as to if a move to the mighty Tottingham might suit him, then his mate’s success will be impossible for him to ignore.

I thought we were desperate for strikers? or full backs? ,maybe a ‘creative’ midfielder for those who still having Modric withdrawal symptoms-but wingers? they’re very low on my list of priorities right now

Agreed. When Ade was injured, and Dempsey started, we had no striker on the bench!!! We are now down to our 3rd choice LB, and 2 of them are not LBs!

Even a winger that scores 25 goals in 38 games? Not many strikers can match that.

Who was the record signing Middlesbrough paid out for? You cannot compare leagues it’s like paying a fortune for Jordan Rhodes on his league 2 performances-it’s a hell of a risk

        • Hot_Spur says:

Yes we all know the risk but you have to speculate to accumulate. We took the risk with Vertonhen, Modric, Berbatov, they all turned out well. Fulham took the risk with Dembele, what a winner he is. Sometimes you have to take the risk, if you don’t your options a severely limited.

All players, even Prem players are a risk-but it seems strikers are even more so than perhaps mids or defenders-Take Vlaar for example-I thought he looked a real class act and had Bale stride for stride on many occasions. However, I can’t recall many forwards having the same sort of influence that come directly into the Prem from Dutch football, there must be an exception to the rule though?

We’ve only got Bale, Lennon & Townsend. A winger wouldn’t go amiss.

    Are the Belgians good trainspotters

  • essexian76 says:

They do make exceedingly good buns though

I think Jan would get caught out with some quickies on the wing. Superb player but not blessed with outright pace. Just think how good he would be if he was !

OK so although you never asked – the January wish list

    LB cover
    play maker
    either wing cover
    30 goal a season man

    Premiership champions.

Get yer cheque book out Levy !!

We should be more worried about Walker the lightning , then Jan . And a 30 goal man then you are refering to us buying Messi or ronaldo ?

    • essexian76 says:

      2nd highest spenders behind Chelsea-yeah he’s a tight bastard

      • Surrey-Spurs says:

It was actually tongue in cheek !
But now you comment we may have spent but also sold as well. So the net spend probably does not compare with Chelsea.
I can see Thudd and Daws going in January. Neither seem to fit the AVB style of play. Some Xmas spending money there perhaps ?

        • essexian76 says:

Maybe, but while we’re competing in the EL I cant see either moving this season-mind you, if we don’t qualify for the KO’s then there’s little point in keeping Dawson given the quality in front of him. Gallas is in his last year and has already said as much, so there’s going to be a slot there, but can we do better-my view is to convert Hudd into a ball playing Central defender where his lack of mobility isn’t as exposed as it is in CM-two birds with one stone

We’ve been after this elusive 30 goal a season man since we lost Berba 4 years ago.
What we’ve learned is we won’t get one, not someone established, not with 36,000 seats. We have to concentrate on getting someone up and coming.
The window we lost Berba we, amongst others, were heavily linked with Falcao but he did his knee. The following summer Harry signed Crouch for £9m as Porto nabbed Falcao for 4m Euros.
They are out there, we just need the right structure in place.

      • essexian76 says:

Although a better stadium will increase our chances of getting better players-Newcastle for example have proved by using a decent scouting network-clubs can save fortunes and let the oil rich clubs spend their way into oblivion in the process
