Arsenal are preparing to submit a formal proposal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers in the coming weeks, according to Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has emerged as a ‘top target’ for the Gunners as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.

Rogers joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough and has since developed into one of the most exciting young players in English football.

Last season, he made 55 appearances across all competitions, contributing 14 goals and 11 assists as Villa lifted the Europa League trophy.

His performances have also earned him a regular place in Thomas Tuchel’s England setup, helping the national team reach the World Cup knockout stage.

Arsenal won the Premier League title last term but were reportedly frustrated by inconsistent performances from their attacking players throughout the campaign.

Aston Villa have already moved to protect their asset, tying Rogers down to a new long-term contract that runs until 2031, and they have qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Despite Villa’s reluctance to sell, Arsenal are planning to test Unai Emery’s resolve with a formal bid, and the Midlands club have placed a price tag of more than £100m on their player.

The situation on Arsenal’s left flank adds further urgency to the pursuit, with both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard entering the final year of their respective contracts.

Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke can offer cover on the left, but Eze is considered more comfortable in a central role while Madueke is naturally a right-winger.

Rogers offers genuine versatility, as he is primarily a creative midfielder but is comfortable operating on the left flank and can also cover the opposite side when required.

His profile combines technical quality, physical strength, the ability to make surging runs from deep, and an eye for goal from outside the box, alongside strong defensive work rate.

At 23, Rogers has yet to reach his peak years, making him an attractive long-term investment for a club of Arsenal’s ambition and resources.

Whether the North London side can convince Villa to part with a player they have just committed to on a fresh long-term deal remains the central question of this transfer saga.
