Aston Villa are well-placed to sign Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa, with the 24-year-old prioritising a move to the Premier League this summer.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Villa are already deep in discussions to bring the Algeria international to Villa Park, with their negotiations among the most advanced of all interested parties.

Newcastle United are also in the running, meaning the two Premier League clubs are currently leading the chase for the Feyenoord winger.

Moussa is expected to be available for around €35m, equivalent to approximately £30m, a fee that should be manageable for Villa following their return to the Champions League.

Despite interest from Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Qadsiah and Al-Ahli, Moussa has made clear his preference is to move to England, giving Villa and Newcastle a significant advantage in negotiations.

The Algeria international was Feyenoord’s second-highest scorer in the Eredivisie last season, contributing 11 goals and averaging an impressive 2.7 successful dribbles per 90 minutes.

That dribbling output was 1.1 more than any other member of the Feyenoord squad, highlighting his ability and willingness to take on opposition defenders directly.

Moussa also has Champions League pedigree, registering three goals and one assist across 11 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign, a useful quality heading into Villa’s European return.

In total, he has amassed 37 goal contributions across 83 Feyenoord appearances, making a move to the Premier League the clear next step in his development.

A potential complication for Unai Emery is that Moussa featured as a right-winger in all 40 of his appearances for Feyenoord last season, a position currently occupied by Villa captain John McGinn.

McGinn contributed ten goals and eight assists across 44 matches last season, but he has also shown versatility, featuring on the left flank in two of Scotland’s three World Cup group stage games.

Moussa’s arrival could push Evann Guessand further out of Villa’s plans, with the Ivorian’s loan spell at Crystal Palace having ended after the Eagles chose not to make it permanent.

Any transfer business surrounding Moussa may need to wait until after the World Cup concludes, with the winger currently representing Algeria in North America.

Algeria progressed from Group J as a third-place finisher, setting up a round of 32 clash with Switzerland, though Moussa was unable to get off the bench in the dramatic 3-3 draw with Austria, a game in which Riyad Mahrez scored twice.

Emery will be keen to bolster his squad depth ahead of a demanding campaign, particularly with many of his players set to return from the World Cup with minimal rest before the new season begins.
