Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both reportedly eyeing a move for SL Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup, according to a recent Italian report.
The 22-year-old Norwegian attacker has emerged as a genuine target for two of the Premier League’s most ambitious clubs heading into the summer window.
Schjelderup originally joined Benfica from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland in 2023, though he struggled to adapt to his new surroundings in the early stages of his career.
He returned to Nordsjaelland on loan to regain form and confidence, giving himself the platform needed to develop into a consistent performer.
After coming back to Benfica in 2024, he initially served as a rotational option before eventually showcasing his qualities throughout the most recent campaign.
He registered 14 goal contributions across all competitions and played a part in helping Benfica remain unbeaten in the Primeira Liga this season.
His performances earned him a place in Norway’s World Cup squad, further underlining his rising status as one of European football’s more exciting young forwards.
Benfica hold the upper hand in negotiations, with Schjelderup’s contract running until 2028, and reports suggest they would accept around £26m but could demand as much as £35m.
Liverpool’s interest is partly driven by the need to replace Mohamed Salah following his departure as a free agent, with the club having already signed Victor Munoz and seeking at least one more winger.
RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is reportedly Liverpool’s primary target, but difficulties in reaching an agreement with the German club have led them to identify Schjelderup as a potential alternative.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are looking to significantly upgrade their squad after a disappointing previous campaign, with reinforcing the flanks identified as a key priority this summer.
Schjelderup’s energy, pace, and left-wing ability make him an attractive proposition for either club, and his relatively modest asking price adds further appeal to a potential deal.
Whether Liverpool or Tottenham ultimately move first to secure the Norwegian’s signature could prove decisive in determining which club wins this particular transfer battle.
