Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, according to a report from The Sun.

The 21-year-old is reportedly ready to leave St James’ Park this summer in order to take the next step in his career.

Hall is said to be open to a move to Old Trafford, with his desire to leave stemming from frustration at how he was used late in the previous season.

The youngster believes that his lack of regular playing time under Eddie Howe in Newcastle’s final few games cost him a place in England’s World Cup squad.

Hall holds the view that consistent minutes would have been enough to earn him a call-up under Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel for the tournament.

Despite the player’s willingness to move, Newcastle are firmly against allowing Hall to depart this summer, particularly to a direct rival like Manchester United.

His existing contract runs until 2029, giving Newcastle a strong negotiating position and little reason to sanction a sale at this stage.

Transfermarkt values the left-back at around £35m, which would represent a significant but justifiable outlay for United given his age and long-term potential.

Hall is a technically gifted, left-footed fullback who is comfortable in possession, quick in transition, and contributes effectively in defensive situations.

Manchester United currently have Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu as left-back options, though Shaw has faced persistent fitness problems and Dorgu has performed better as a winger.

Diego Leon and Harry Amass can provide cover in the position, but both players are considered too inexperienced to support the club’s ambitions right now.

The pursuit of Hall forms part of a broader United restructure this summer, with the club also working to revamp their midfield following Casemiro’s departure as a free agent.
