Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte.
The Gunners have identified the 28-year-old as their primary transfer target this summer and have already submitted two bids for his services.
Their opening offer of £55 million was rejected, followed by a second bid worth £65 million that also failed to convince Newcastle to sell.
Arsenal are now preparing a third and potentially final offer worth £72 million in a bid to get the deal over the line.
UOL Esporte report that Guimaraes is “very close” to completing a move away from St James’ Park this summer.
The Brazilian has no intention of forcing an exit but has personally informed the Newcastle hierarchy of his desire to move on to a bigger challenge.
Guimaraes was outstanding for the Magpies last season, registering 9 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League despite missing a significant period with a hamstring injury.
His defensive contributions were equally impressive, averaging 6 duels won, 2 tackles, and 4 recoveries per league appearance across the campaign.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has previously described Guimaraes as “very special,” underlining just how important the midfielder has been to the club since joining.
Arsenal’s pursuit comes at a time when Newcastle have been heavily selling key assets, with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali departing this summer for a combined £170 million.
Previous exits include Elliot Anderson and Alexander Isak, who left in the 2024 and 2025 summer windows respectively, leaving the squad notably weakened.
Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season, and the lack of quality replacements following these departures has reportedly frustrated Guimaraes.
Despite being in a strong financial position after recent sales, Newcastle may find it difficult to justify holding on to a player who turns 29 in November and is clearly seeking a new challenge.
Arsenal, as reigning English champions, represent an attractive proposition for Guimaraes, who appears ready to compete at the highest level of club football.
