Chelsea have made formal contact with Real Madrid over a potential deal to sign Eduardo Camavinga, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The move signals Xabi Alonso’s clear intent to reshape the midfield at Stamford Bridge after taking charge as the club’s new manager.
Alonso has already started adding to his squad, with Marco Palestra arriving from Atalanta and Geovany Quenda completing a move from Sporting CP, albeit a deal finalised last year.
Despite those additions, reinforcing the deeper midfield positions remains a top priority for the new Chelsea boss this summer.
Chelsea currently have Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Romeo Lavia, and Dario Essugo available for the deeper midfield roles following Andrey Santos’ departure to Manchester United.
Lavia and Essugo battled persistent fitness issues last campaign, while Fernández has been linked with an exit after expressing a desire for a new challenge.
Chelsea also explored a move for Granit Xhaka, but Sunderland persuaded the midfielder to remain, with his contract running until 2028.
Fichajes report that Real Madrid would be open to selling Camavinga if Chelsea submit a concrete proposal in the region of €80m, equivalent to around £68m, with the 23-year-old’s current deal running until 2029.
Chelsea are targeting a player with exceptional dribbling skills, relentless pressing, and outstanding physical presence, attributes Camavinga is widely regarded to possess.
The Frenchman is a technically gifted left-footed player capable of operating as a defensive midfielder, in a box-to-box role, and even as cover at left-back.
Despite his clear quality, Camavinga has struggled to command regular game time at Real Madrid, a situation that ultimately cost him a place in France’s World Cup squad.
Camavinga himself has reportedly shown no intention of leaving the Bernabeu, meaning Chelsea face the challenge of convincing him with the promise of a leading role under Alonso.
Chelsea are understood to be offering him a prominent place in the starting line-up as they attempt to make the transfer happen this summer.
At just 23 years old, Camavinga still has considerable development ahead of him, and a move to Stamford Bridge could prove to be a significant coup for Alonso’s rebuilding project.
