Everton are pushing to sign Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado this summer as David Moyes looks to mount a European challenge next season.
The Toffees had a decent first year at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in 2025/26 and are now looking to strengthen significantly during the ongoing transfer window.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has reported that Everton are keen on signing a new midfielder, with Casado emerging as a serious option for the club.
The 22-year-old is seeking a move away from Barcelona in order to secure more consistent playing time, having found regular football hard to come by at the Catalan giants.
Bailey has also reported that Chelsea and Manchester City, despite showing interest, have been ruled out by the player himself, as he fears a move to either club could continue to limit his game time.
Manchester United are understood to be keen on the Spanish midfielder, but Everton are expected to be the frontrunner given Casado’s desire for a more prominent role.
Barcelona are prepared to sell Casado for £34 million, a fee that is believed to sit well within Everton’s budget for this transfer window.
Casado came through La Masia before breaking into Barcelona’s first-team and is known for his ability to read the game brilliantly while making intricate short passes and line-breaking deliveries.
The midfielder can beat pressure effectively in the engine room and is a committed worker without the ball, frequently dropping deep to win possession through interceptions, tackling, and pressing.
A natural number six, Casado would give Moyes’ side far greater control in midfield and help dictate the tempo and flow of matches, addressing one of Everton’s most pressing needs.
The primary concern surrounding any potential deal is whether Casado would be willing to join a club that will not be competing in the Champions League, at least for next season.
If Everton can convince the Spaniard that regular football and a clear pathway to European competition are on offer, they stand a strong chance of beating Manchester United to one of the summer’s most coveted midfielders.
