West Bromwich Albion produced an impressive second-half turnaround to defeat promotion favourites Burnley 3-1 in the Championship at the Hawthorns.

Isaac Price was the standout performer, scoring twice after the break while also providing the assist for Harry Whitwell’s equaliser earlier in the contest.

Burnley arrived without injured star striker Zian Flemming, who is the subject of intense transfer speculation, and the absence proved telling as the match wore on.

Callum Styles’s early own goal put the visitors in front, with the defender diverting Jacob Bruun Larsen’s cross into his own net in the eighth minute.

Albion had complained that Hannibal Mejbri fouled Felix Horn Myhre in the buildup some 70 yards away, with several passages of play unfolding before the goal was scored.

Whitwell restored parity on 18 minutes, slotting low to Max Weiss’s left from 12 yards to score his first league goal for the club at just 20 years old.

Burnley went closest to retaking the lead before the break when Bruun Larsen sidefooted against the foot of the post from Marcus Edwards’s searching cross.

Price put Albion ahead for the first time in the 46th minute, curling the ball beyond Weiss, who had strayed five yards off his line, into the far corner.

Burnley responded by introducing Ugo Raghouber, Zeki Amdouni, and Dastan Satpayev in the 57th minute, but the triple substitution failed to change the game’s momentum.

Amdouni tested the Albion keeper with a rising, curling effort from 20 yards, but it flew straight at the stopper without troubling him.

Bashir Humphreys then upended Whitwell for a clear penalty, and Price made no mistake from the spot, firing low to Weiss’s right with the keeper going the wrong way.

The result means Albion maintain their perfect start to the season, recording their third straight win in all competitions and sitting second in the early Championship table behind Millwall on goal difference.
