Arsenal are in active pursuit of Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reporting the Gunners are ‘pushing’ to secure an agreement.
The highly rated English teenager is still a few weeks away from his 17th birthday but has already made a significant mark on English football history.
Monga became the youngest goalscorer in Leicester City’s history when he netted in a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End last August.
That goal also broke a Championship record, with Monga achieving the milestone at 16 years and 37 days, beating the mark set by Jude Bellingham for Birmingham City in 2019 at 16 years and 63 days.
The 2024-25 season brought further history when he became the second-youngest player ever to appear in the Premier League, behind only Ethan Nwaneri, after coming on in a 3-0 loss to Newcastle United at 15 years and 271 days.
That record has since been surpassed by Max Dowman, who made his Premier League debut at 15 years and 235 days against Leeds United last season.
Although many of Monga’s appearances last season came from the bench, his performances have been consistently encouraging and an exit this summer is now widely expected.
Romano’s update signals that talks are moving quickly, with Arsenal negotiating directly with the winger’s entourage over the terms of a potential switch to Emirates Stadium.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported the deal could cost in excess of £10m, with a tribunal potentially required to settle the final transfer fee between the two clubs.
Monga is most naturally deployed on the right wing but can also operate on the left flank or in an attacking midfield role, offering Arsenal genuine positional flexibility.
His technical qualities are well documented, with an 84.7% pass completion rate and 50% long-ball accuracy recorded last season highlighting his efficiency in possession.
Romano adds that Monga is open to making the move to Arsenal, giving the Gunners confidence that a deal can be concluded during the current summer transfer window.
Should the transfer go through, Monga would join a growing pool of young talent at Arsenal alongside prospects including Jaden Dixon, Evan Mooney, and Ecuadorian twins Holger and Edwin Quintero.
Arsenal’s track record in developing young players makes the club an appealing destination for one of the most exciting teenage talents to emerge in English football in recent years.
