Chelsea have entered the race to sign highly rated Nigerian wonderkid Zadok Yohanna from Swedish club AIK this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
The 18-year-old winger has caught the attention of clubs across Europe with his impressive performances since joining AIK from Ikon Allah Academy last summer.
Yohanna has already registered nine goal contributions in Swedish football, showcasing exciting flair, pace, and skill that has earned him widespread admiration.
His 4.34 dribbles per game statistic underlines just how direct and dangerous the teenage winger can be when operating at his best.
TEAMtalk reports that AIK, 12-time Swedish champions, have placed a £20 million price tag on the youngster, reflecting his growing reputation across the continent.
Chelsea view the teenager as a player with immense long-term potential and are looking to add more exciting attacking prospects to their squad this summer.
Under BlueCo, Chelsea have demonstrated a willingness to spend heavily on young players, and there is a belief the club could meet AIK’s valuation for Yohanna.
However, the Blues face fierce competition, with Manchester City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Sunderland, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen all reportedly in the running.
Chelsea have been expanding their African scouting network since appointing Achirou Gaoh and Seyi Olofinjana to lead their recruitment efforts across the continent.
That push has previously seen the club conduct trials for talents including Stade Reims striker Hafiz Umar and Victor Divine Emmanuel, who signed for sister club Strasbourg last summer.
Chelsea also reportedly tracked Nigeria U20 international Abduljelil Kamaldeen as recently as October, signalling a strong and sustained interest in African talent.
The club has a rich history with Nigerian players, with John Obi Mikel winning the UEFA Champions League in 2012 and Victor Moses helping secure the Premier League title in 2016/17.
Celestine Babayaro, Ola Aina, and Kenneth Omeruo are among other Nigerian internationals who have featured on Chelsea’s books over the years.
Given that legacy, successfully landing Yohanna could further strengthen Chelsea’s already enormous support base across Nigeria and the wider African continent.
