Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, according to Football Insider.
Manager Michael Carrick is understood to be looking to strengthen the left-back position ahead of the upcoming season.
United currently have Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu as their primary options at left-back, with academy players Harry Amass and Diego Leon also providing cover.
Shaw featured regularly last term but carries a long history of fitness problems that has disrupted his career at Old Trafford.
Dorgu, meanwhile, has shown his best form as a winger rather than a fullback, casting doubt over his long-term future in that defensive role.
Amass and Leon are considered too young and inexperienced to help United meet their ambitions at the top level this season.
United have been focused on revamping their midfield department in recent weeks, with a move for Hall potentially coming after those engine room issues are resolved.
Newcastle have placed an £80m price tag on Hall to deter any interested clubs, with the player’s contract at St James’ Park running until 2029.
United are unwilling to meet that valuation and will only pursue a deal if Newcastle agree to lower their asking price significantly.
Hall initially joined Newcastle on loan from Chelsea in 2023, before that move was made permanent the following year, establishing himself as a key figure at the club.
The 21-year-old contributed three goals or assists and kept four clean sheets across all competitions last term, underlining his growing influence at St James’ Park.
Speculation around Hall’s future intensified after England manager Thomas Tuchel chose not to include him in the national team’s World Cup squad.
Hall is widely regarded as a technically gifted left-back who has consistently proven his quality in the Premier League over recent seasons.
Securing his signature would represent a significant statement of intent from Carrick’s United, though Newcastle’s valuation makes any deal a complicated proposition.
