Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic this summer, with the Serbian set to leave Turin when his contract expires at the end of June.

Italian outlet Tutto Juve has reported that the Blues lead the race to secure Vlahovic’s signature during the current transfer window.

The 26-year-old was offered to Barcelona, Newcastle United, and Real Madrid among other clubs, but none were willing to meet his wage demands.

Their reluctance to match his financial requirements has left Chelsea well placed to capitalise and bring the striker to Stamford Bridge.

Because Vlahovic’s Juventus contract expires at the end of June, Chelsea would be able to sign him on a free transfer, making the deal significantly more attractive financially.

Transfermarkt values the Serbian international at 30 million pounds, meaning a free signing would represent exceptional value for the London club.

Chelsea are expected to part ways with both Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson ahead of next season, which would open up a striking vacancy alongside Joao Pedro.

Vlahovic’s physical profile makes him an appealing option, with his 6ft 3in frame providing a powerful aerial presence in the box to complement Pedro’s movement.

His strong left foot gives him considerable shooting and finishing ability, and his capacity to maintain consistent form makes him an attractive proposition for any top club.

Pedro is capable of operating down the left flank or as a second striker, meaning Vlahovic could feasibly co-exist with the Brazilian rather than compete directly with him for a starting role.

Chelsea’s attacking depth has been a concern, with most options beyond Pedro failing to contribute effectively in the final third throughout the season.

Vlahovic’s career at Juventus may not have reached the heights many anticipated, but his previous success at Fiorentina demonstrated the quality that first attracted Europe’s top clubs to him.

It may now only be a matter of time before Chelsea agree personal terms with the striker and complete what would be one of the summer’s most cost-effective signings.
