Liverpool’s summer transfer window is heating up rapidly as new head coach Andoni Iraola works to reshape the squad ahead of his debut 2026/27 campaign at Anfield.

Iraola arrives at Liverpool with a well-established footballing identity, having built his reputation at Bournemouth through intense pressing and a high-energy, attack-minded style of play.

The 44-year-old’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system demands quality and dynamism across the pitch, with midfield reinforcements and attacking additions both firmly on the agenda this summer.

One of the most significant targets to emerge is RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, with Liverpool reportedly moving quickly to secure the 19-year-old Ivorian international.

According to Media Foot, Liverpool have already agreed personal terms with Diomande, signalling the club’s serious intent to bring him to Merseyside in the near future.

The report states that Diomande is Liverpool’s top attacking transfer priority, with the club willing to spend significantly to beat Champions League holders PSG to his signature.

RB Leipzig have set their asking price at over £100m, and while no fee has been agreed between the clubs, the player himself appears to view his future at Anfield.

Diomande enjoyed a stunning breakthrough Bundesliga season, contributing 20 goals and assists across 33 league appearances while completing a remarkable 4.3 successful dribbles per 90 minutes.

That dribble completion figure was the highest of any player in Germany’s top flight, and analyst Bence Bocsak has labelled the teenager “generational” in recognition of his explosive displays.

His 12 league goals represent six times the tally registered by Liverpool’s own teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha, underlining just how impressive Diomande’s output was in the Bundesliga last season.

Ngumoha himself enjoyed a fine breakthrough campaign at Liverpool, making 19 league appearances and scoring twice, including strikes against Newcastle United and Fulham that caught the eye of supporters.

The 17-year-old’s performances were impressive enough to earn recognition from England manager Thomas Tuchel, who included Ngumoha in the squad for a training camp ahead of the World Cup.

However, Diomande’s arrival would almost certainly push Ngumoha into a backup role, with the Ivorian expected to command a regular starting berth on Liverpool’s left flank from day one.

Diomande also created 2.1 chances per 90 for teammates during his time at Leipzig, offering Iraola a more rounded and immediately impactful option in wide attacking areas.

Liverpool are not alone in pursuing high-profile midfield targets this summer, with Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha also linked after reports emerged that the club has already contacted the 25-year-old’s representatives.

Manchester United are also pursuing Nmecha, who could command a fee of at least £60m following his performances at the ongoing World Cup with Germany.

Iraola is clearly building a squad capable of competing at the highest level, and the pursuit of players of Diomande’s calibre signals genuine ambition from the Anfield hierarchy this summer.

Ngumoha’s long-term future at Liverpool remains bright, and few would doubt the teenager will eventually become a regular starter, but patience may be required during the upcoming campaign.

For now, all eyes remain on whether Liverpool and RB Leipzig can bridge the gap in transfer fee negotiations and make Diomande’s move to Merseyside an official reality.
