Chelsea have identified Leeds United left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson as a potential replacement for Marc Cucurella, according to Swedish outlet Expressen.
Cucurella has agreed to return to Spain, with the full-back completing a big-money transfer to Real Madrid this summer.
The departure marks the first major exit of the Xabi Alonso era at Stamford Bridge, prompting Chelsea to search the market for defensive reinforcements.
Gudmundsson made 32 Premier League appearances last season, playing a key role as Leeds secured their top-flight status for another campaign.
The Swedish international is currently representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he is part of Graham Potter’s 26-man squad.
Gudmundsson started Sweden’s last two World Cup matches and is expected to feature in their crucial clash against Japan, which will determine the team’s tournament fate.
Expressen reports that the former Lille man is attracting “great interest” from several Premier League clubs, with Chelsea among those monitoring his situation closely.
While Leeds would prefer to keep Gudmundsson at Elland Road, the report suggests he could leave for the right offer this summer.
Chelsea have also been linked with Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso as Alonso seeks options to cover the left side of his defensive setup.
The Blues’ recently reported verbal agreement to sign Marco Palestra from Atalanta indicates Alonso may favour a back three with wing-backs next season.
Reece James, Malo Gusto, and Jorrel Hato are currently viewed as viable options for those roles, with Palestra expected to strengthen the group further.
Chelsea are also reportedly close to signing Strasbourg fullback Valentin Barco, which could reduce the urgency of adding another left-sided option to the squad.
Despite that, Gudmundsson, who is valued above his £17 million Transfermarkt figure, would offer reliable depth if he is prepared to compete for minutes at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are undergoing an extensive rebuild this summer following a 10th-place Premier League finish and a failure to qualify for European football.
