Manchester United are locked in a three-way transfer battle with Liverpool and Arsenal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Mateus Mane this summer.
The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League after a breakthrough season at Molineux.
Mane joined Wolves from lower-division side Rochdale in 2024, following a recruitment path similar to that of Max Kilman, who arrived from National League side Maidenhead United back in 2018.
He made history at the club by becoming Wolves’ youngest-ever top-flight debutant, making his debut in a 2-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on May 10th at just 17 years, seven months and 13 days.
After beginning last season largely as a substitute, Mane grew into a prominent role under Rob Edwards and made 28 Premier League appearances along with 31 in all competitions.
His contribution went beyond statistics, as he proved to be a livewire in the team and showed real quality, particularly in the bigger matches throughout the campaign.
According to Fussballdaten, several clubs across Europe have now identified Mane as a priority transfer target ahead of the summer window closing.
Wolves hold the upper hand in negotiations, with Mane contracted at Molineux until 2029, allowing the club to demand offers in the region of £35m.
The English trio are not alone in their pursuit, with Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Newcastle United also entering the race to sign the teenager, according to the report.
All three Premier League giants have shown a strong appetite for young talent in recent transfer windows, building impressive pipelines of prospects across their squads.
Manchester United have brought in the likes of Harley Emsden-James, Enzo Kana-Biyik, Diego Leon and Cristian Orozco, while Ayden Heaven is already establishing himself as a key first-team player.
Arsenal welcomed Jaden Dixon and Evan Mooney to their youth ranks last season, with Colombian twins Edwin Quintero and Holger Quintero set to join once they turn 18.
Liverpool have also been active, with Rio Ngumoha enjoying a breakout year after joining from Chelsea, alongside recent recruits Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Samuel Martinez.
Mane would represent a Premier League-proven prospect ready to step into the first team at any of the three clubs immediately, making him an especially attractive proposition this window.
With two months remaining before the transfer deadline, the battle for the Wolves teenager is only set to intensify in the coming weeks.
