Manchester United are plotting a move to sign highly rated Portuguese teenager Mateus Mané from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer transfer window.

According to Ekrem Konur via United in Focus, United have joined several clubs, including Liverpool, in the race to land the exciting young talent.

Reports suggest United are ready to submit a formal offer of around £20m to ‘test the waters’ with Wolves, who have placed a £35m valuation on the player.

Mané originally joined Wolves from EFL League Two side Rochdale back in March 2024, quickly catching the eye in the academy before forcing his way into first-team consideration.

He made history on May 10th, 2025, becoming Wolves’ youngest-ever top-flight debutant at just 17 years, seven months and 13 days in a 2-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

What followed was a remarkable breakthrough season, with Mané starting 19 of his 28 Premier League games and featuring 31 times across all competitions under Rob Edwards.

Despite Wolves suffering relegation from the Premier League, the Portuguese starlet consistently caused problems for opposing defences throughout the campaign.

His standout moment came in a memorable 2-2 comeback win over eventual champions Arsenal, where he showed his quality on the biggest stage.

Statistically, Mané demonstrated significant creative output, ranking in the 73rd percentile for chances created per 90 minutes among Premier League players for Wolves.

He also completed 76.3% of his passes, a solid return for a player operating within a Wolves side that was less possession-dependent and content to sit deep.

The 18-year-old is a dynamic and versatile talent capable of playing in attacking midfield and on either flank, frequently dropping deep to receive the ball and orchestrate play.

Although Mané extended his contract at Molineux last September, it appears Wolves may be open to his departure following their relegation from the top flight.

A move to Old Trafford would fit neatly into Manchester United’s increasingly youth-driven recruitment policy, which has recently brought in the likes of Harley Emsden-James, Enzo Kana-Biyik, Diego Leon, Cristian Orozco, Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi Martins and Andre Santos.

United’s opening bid of around £20m falls well short of Wolves’ £35m asking price, meaning significant negotiation lies ahead before any deal can be concluded.
