Manchester United have reportedly held talks with West Ham United over a potential deal to sign winger Crysencio Summerville, according to Sky Sports.
The Red Devils have identified the Dutch international as their primary transfer target as they look to reshape their attacking options this summer.
United have already made significant changes to their forward line after letting Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford all leave the club in recent windows.
Garnacho completed a permanent move to Chelsea, while Rashford and Sancho departed on loan to Barcelona and Aston Villa respectively under Unai Emery.
Sancho’s loan spell at Aston Villa has now concluded without a permanent deal being triggered, leaving the former Borussia Dortmund winger as a free agent.
Barcelona have also declined the opportunity to sign Rashford on a permanent basis, with the Spanish giants already pursuing Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
Sky Sports report that Rashford, 28, is expected to return to Old Trafford following his involvement with England at the World Cup, though Michael Carrick’s side are open to selling him.
United are pressing ahead with their pursuit of Summerville and have already held exploratory discussions with West Ham, with the Netherlands star’s future expected to be resolved quickly following his country’s World Cup exit.
Tottenham Hotspur are also firmly in the running for Summerville’s signature, adding urgency to United’s pursuit after they previously missed out on midfield target Mateus Fernandes to the North London club.
West Ham, despite suffering relegation, are holding firm on their valuation and are demanding around £50m for Summerville, who has a contract running until 2029.
The 27-year-old predominantly operates as a left-winger but has demonstrated the versatility to perform effectively on the right flank as well.
There remains a possibility, per the report, that United opt against signing Summerville entirely and instead retain Rashford as a squad option moving forward.
The coming days are likely to prove decisive in determining whether United can fend off Tottenham and secure the West Ham star’s services before the window progresses further.
