Everton are in talks to sign Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland on a free transfer this summer, according to reports from El Desmarque in Spain, relayed by Sport Witness.

The 35-year-old became available after his contract at Sevilla expired, leaving him free to negotiate with interested clubs ahead of the new season.

Nyland is expected to serve as backup to Jordan Pickford, providing experienced cover between the sticks for David Moyes and his squad.

The Toffees have already been busy this summer, having secured the signings of Tyrique George and Hayden Hackney before turning their attention to goalkeeping reinforcements.

Nyland entered the World Cup knowing a strong tournament could resurrect his career prospects, and he delivered impressive performances as Norway reached the quarter-finals.

Norway’s run came to an end against England, with Jude Bellingham scoring the winning goal in extra-time to eliminate the Scandinavian side from the competition.

By the time that Bellingham effort ended Norway’s campaign, Nyland had made 16 saves at the tournament and posted a save percentage of 69.6 percent, outperforming Pickford’s 66.7 percent across six matches.

Pickford made 12 saves during England’s successful run, recording two clean sheets, while Nyland kept none but was repeatedly called upon across five appearances.

The veteran shot-stopper already has Premier League pedigree, having previously represented both Aston Villa and Bournemouth before his move to Sevilla, giving him a strong understanding of English top-flight football.

His familiarity with the Premier League makes the potential deal even more appealing for Everton, who would be welcoming him back to English football for the first time since 2022.

Squad depth will be critical for Moyes if Everton are to push into European contention next season, and a reliable, experienced backup goalkeeper could prove more valuable than the headlines might suggest.

Nyland represents exactly the kind of low-risk, high-experience signing that could strengthen the squad without placing excessive financial burden on the club.
