Former Liverpool striker and pundit Michael Owen has called on his former club to move for West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen this summer.

Liverpool are navigating a difficult period in attack following Mohamed Salah’s departure and a serious injury sustained by Hugo Ekitike.

The club has already moved to sign Victor Muñoz from Osasuna, but manager Andoni Iraola is understood to need a more established attacking option.

Owen believes Liverpool do not need to prioritise signing a new striker, suggesting Ekitike will eventually return and that Alexander Isak is capable of leading the line.

Instead, Owen has identified the right-wing position as the area Liverpool must address, pointing to Bowen as a low-risk, high-quality solution.

Owen said: “Jarrod Bowen’s just crying out. I mean, there’s no risk. He’s brilliant. He’ll score plenty of goals, he’s played in the Premier League.”

The pundit also addressed the situation facing Bowen at West Ham, who were relegated and will compete in the Championship next season.

Owen added: “I certainly don’t want to upset West Ham fans, but surely someone of his quality can’t be playing in the Championship for a year. I mean, it’s not like he’s 17, and starting his career. He’s got to be playing in the top teams. Even if they loaned him for a year. West Ham get back up and then he can go back, and that gives Liverpool time to find someone else.”

The 29-year-old winger made 42 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing 11 goals and 12 assists despite West Ham’s struggles as a team.

Bowen is a left-footed right-winger who originally joined West Ham from Hull City and has developed into one of the most consistent wide attackers in recent Premier League seasons.

His attributes include pace, aerial ability, set-piece delivery, and a strong work rate without the ball, making him a versatile option in any attacking system.

At 29, Bowen is regarded as being in the prime years of his career, and Owen’s suggestion of even a season-long loan deal could appeal to all parties involved.

Whether Liverpool’s hierarchy act on Owen’s public recommendation remains to be seen, but the former England striker has made a compelling case for Bowen’s arrival at Anfield.
