Tottenham Hotspur have significantly raised their asking price for Djed Spence following his impressive performances for England at the 2026 World Cup.

The 25-year-old full-back has gone from a squad player fighting for his future at Spurs to one of the most talked-about names in the tournament.

Spence’s breakthrough moment arrived when he came off the bench against Norway in the quarter-final, delivering a 34-minute cameo to remember.

During that appearance, he made seven defensive contributions, won three of four ground duels plus an aerial duel, and completed 12 of his 14 passes.

Rio Ferdinand was among the pundits to heap praise on Spence, saying people needed to “put some respect on his name” following that display.

Alan Shearer went further, insisting during the defeat to Argentina that Spence was a man of the match candidate despite England falling short.

Spence was tasked with shackling Lionel Messi for large periods and produced a stunning tackle to deny a goalscoring opportunity for Giuliano Simeone.

His World Cup numbers tell the story clearly, with 313 minutes played, an 87 per cent pass success rate, and two tackles per game across the tournament.

Italian reports now indicate that Inter’s interest in the Englishman has not cooled, but their path to signing him has become considerably more difficult.

Tottenham are demanding upwards of €35m, equivalent to around £30m, which would hand the north London club a notable £10m profit on the fee paid to sign him from Middlesbrough in 2022.

Spence himself is said to be keen on making the move, as he wants to play Champions League football next season.

With the player’s willingness to leave and Inter’s continued interest, Spence may ultimately need to force through an exit himself to make the deal happen.

Talks between the two clubs are expected to take place once the World Cup concludes, with England set to feature in the third place playoff on Saturday in Miami.

Meanwhile, Football FanCast sources understand Tottenham have told Brazilian left-back Souza he will be part of Roberto De Zerbi’s plans for next season.

De Zerbi values Souza’s versatility and plans to use him as an alternative option to Andy Robertson, who joined Spurs as a free agent from Liverpool this summer.

Destiny Udogie could depart as he continues to struggle with injuries, but De Zerbi wants two quality options in each position heading into the new campaign.
