Arsenal have made direct contact with Jack Hinshelwood’s entourage as they push to secure the Brighton midfielder this summer transfer window.
The Premier League champions have identified the 21-year-old as their priority target, according to a report from The Sun.
Hinshelwood has been a product of Brighton’s acclaimed academy system, which has previously produced first-team regulars including Ben White, Robert Sanchez, Aaron Connolly, Solly March, and Lewis Dunk.
Since making his senior debut in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park on 28 May 2023, Hinshelwood has gone on to make 79 appearances for the Seagulls.
During that time, the midfielder has accumulated 19 goal contributions, a record described by former Brighton teammate Adam Webster as “incredible.”
Mikel Arteta is said to view Hinshelwood as a perfect fit for his squad due to the youngster’s ability to play multiple midfield positions as well as both full-back roles.
Arsenal are now preparing to submit a formal offer to Brighton, with the East Sussex club potentially open to bids in the range of £43m to £51m for their academy graduate.
Brighton would ideally prefer to retain the England Under-21 international but appear willing to listen to offers that meet their valuation of the player.
Arsenal’s pursuit will not go unchallenged, as Manchester United have made enquiries for Hinshelwood while Manchester City have also shown interest, according to The Sun.
The Gunners already boast significant midfield depth, having recently completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes in a high-profile deal to strengthen an already competitive midfield unit.
Questions surrounding the futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus mean Arsenal may face pressure to direct funds toward attacking reinforcements rather than the midfield area.
Hinshelwood represents an exciting and versatile option, but Arsenal’s decision to pursue him will be scrutinised given their existing options and needs in other positions across the squad.
