Arry Redknapp Is Mavis Riley

“You’ve got to go there and play sensibly against the better teams, you’ve got to be difficult to beat away from home. Let’s not kid ourselves. If we come back with a point we would all be delighted.”

“So you’ve got to go out there and hit them on the break. We’d like to win but we’re not going to go out and start swarming all over them – they are a top team, so you have to be aware of that.”

Stirring stuff. Arry’s pre match words there evoke such strong emotions. Forget ‘Cry havoc!’, never mind Braveheart and see you later alligator to ‘Upon my command, unleash hell!’ No, what we have here has just raised the bar in motivational speeches.

Hairs tingling on the of your neck? Nope, mine neither. He’s about as fired up as Mavis Riley dithering over whether to have a custard cream or a chocolate digestive.

Given the manner in which Tottenham play their best football, it’s seem downright weird for Arry to suddenly come it all master tactician on us. There will be quite enough over-thinking taking place courtesy of the fat Spanish waiter. Tottenham need to get out there and do precisely the opposite of his pearls of wisdom above.

A holding game is something Spurs are not entirely at one with to put it mildly and this strategy also requires a damn tight back four. Hardly our calling card.

Anytime goalscorer punt would have to be the boy Bale @9/2.

The ref seemed to want to kill the game for inter at the earliest op.Was gomes supposed to get out of the forwards way the bloke was already in the air when gomes went for the ball.we got no decisions
one off the ball incident when crouch was fouled in the area.one foul on bale in the area when he was brought down and he couldnt finish the game quick enough even blowing the whistle after we had shot but the ball hadnt reach their goal.etos pen should have been taken again as cudicini moved before the ball was struck as eto stopped and started.COULD BE THE MAFIA HAD HIM FEARING FOR HIS LIFE? when webb reffed the world cup final he could have sent off 2 dutch players in the first fifteen for worse but kept the game going.

Continuing with what Melcyid was saying above.
The ref had in fact given the red card to BAE at first.
What does that mean? How does a ref make that mistake? Well it means he was dead intent on giving someone a red card at the first opportunity. Either that or he made a mistake.
I will explain. He gave the red card to BAE ‘because he was the last defender’. That makes sense.
But after referring with official behind the goal, it was made clear that the foul was by Gomes. Now lets look at that foul. It is probably a yellow card at best. A penalty yes, but the challenge by Gomes was innocuous and made to look clumsy. Ive seen those just being a Yellow card. The ref simply did not want to look stupid and pull it out instead after having showed the red already.

Furthemore, Jenas had made a brilliant tackle in …The Ref literally blew his whistle as hard has he could and ran towards him like a steam train.
It was pretty ridiculous really as he clearly got the ball.
I also thought that the Eto penalty was contentious as he seemed to stop and start..sort of.(which is against the new rules)

I thought that we had been given 3 mins extra time at the end, but he blew after 2 mins… when we looked dangerously close to scoring the equalizer. Inter were rattled at that stage.

    About the team:
Its one thing to say that without Bale we would have had nothing but without the team Bale, would not been on the pitch in the first place.
For playing with 10 men and scoring 3 against Inter at the San Siro shows we did something right. The game changed when Thud and especially Crouch game off it has to be said. Crouch was on the pitch far too long when playing with ten men.
im not sure what the strategy was there. We were still trying to utilize his height with the high balls, but with 10 men who is going to support him?

So he only started because of the VDV concept play. It would therefore make sense to have taken him off with Modric. (we still need a striker who that does the job of two)

Gallas could have done better with all his experience and i thought Bassong Showed quality in the second half to disrupt some dangerous play.
All the usual things we expect from a ‘great squad’

    I’ll stop there i think…

Bypassing the conspiracy issues, we simply started appallingly, and provided enough rope for the gambling cartels/mafia/ref/circumstances to hang us with.

At least 2 of their goals was easily avoidable. They were soft goals to concede. Yes it is all about squad, but the hutton/gallas/basson axis at the back hardly know eachother. Throw in the add that to the still getting to know you aspect of Jenas in midfield, and we never were in with a shout of keeping a clean sheet.

I don’t think any one player was especially awful yesterday, but as a team in the first half we weren’t half pitiful. The second half flatterd us a bit as Inter took their foot off the pedal and relaxed, but we can’t take it away from Bale and the supporting act of Azza and other willing runners on the break.

Defending as a unit is where we failed last night, and that is where we’ll succeed in a fortnight where we’ll take all 3 points.

You make a good point about Crouch, Spurlative, his place as the lone forward has been very much underlined by DVD and how they have made a good go of it between them. Without DVD, and certainly after Modric went, Crouch was way out on a limb and frankly PSB would have been a better option at that point, operating forward of where Modders would have been but deeper than 3MP, picking up the ball and running at them…..that tactic certainly worked for all three of our goals with Bale doing it twice and Lennon once.

As for the Ref, well we only have to look back at the reports over the years to see what a shambles they generally are, think back to Chelsea and Drogba’s run ins. The Goons play Europe well, they are accomplished cheats, dishing out what English teams usually get stiffed with.

  • Nicko says:

Here’s a question, don’t know if it’s been raised already…..if BAE had let the ball run into the goal after Gomes’s tackle. Would a red card still of been given? After all, a goal scoring opportunity had not been denied. A goal would of been scored.
