New Kit Manufacturer Named

Morning,

According to Michael Steele a Bloomberg bloke, Under Armour will be suppliers to the Tottinghams come 2012.

Mixed reaction from me. This news will send a chill down the spine of those supporters who had ‘issues’ with Kappa kits. If you thought their stuff was a neat fit, Under Armour goods aren’t displayed on a coat hanger, they come in can.

The other question I would raise is why aren’t we going for a truly household name like Adidas or Nike? I’d be staggered if Levy & Co give a stuff about ‘individuality’ and this has more to do with the bottom line.

We’ll be told of course about all the technical benefits (techie fans you’ll love this stuff) and how in 10 years time they’ll all be wearing it. Mmn.It would take me 10 years of going to the gym to get one of these bar stewards on.

Here’s their homepage.

on a slight aside has anyone read defoe’s comments today. scores a couple of goals and decides he can threaten us with quitting for a second time. maybe if he wants some more game time he should stick a few more goals in. I hope that over the summer we can buy someone half decent and ship him out on our own terms, lets see what team he ends up at, can’t see city, chelsea, liverpool, united, or the gooners in for him that’s for sure. (Defoe article on the guardian http://tinyurl.com/69sampg)

    • AS says:

Defoe has scored just three goals in his last 19 Prem starts.
Never mind demanding more game time – he should be thanking Harry for playing him at all !

    • Harry Hotspur says:

I’d sell him in a heartbeat.

      • MysteriousStranger says:

I would sell him too. Having lined up a replacement.

“I’m 28, I don’t need to be sitting on the bench. I don’t need anyone to put their arm round my shoulder and say: ‘Just keep it going.'” is as clear a dig at Harry as you can get.

I have some sympathy for Defoe and Pav. Like if you’re a striker who isn’t playing much due to the 3MP show, you get the start against Wolves> Hooray… oh hang on though. You read all the Sunday papers and Harry’s quotes on how 35-40 yard diagonal passes to Crouch’s head were going to be the order of the evening against Milan.

In Defoe’s defence, he’s not doing anything terribly different to our “man-manager”. Harry Redknapp is pre-determining his position/selection in the press. Defoe is using the same medium to vent his disappointment.

Defoe “he’s a Yiddo”, can go in the summer for all I care. I didn’t want him back in the first place.

I would think this all points to discontent in the camp, though.

        • AS says:

I know that footballers are often self absorbed with delusions of grandeur but I think Defoe takes the biscuit with these quotes.

and Harry might well feel a bit let down considering he has shown Defoe a lot more faith than his appalling form has deserved.

          Time to sell.

lol. My thoughts exactly! Comes back from injury and gets banned… I liked Defoe but he’d still be at Portsmouth if I was in charge. Least it won’t hurt him so bad when he makes way in the summer. *note the hope* He did well the other day but… we need some angry, nasty buggers with a constant fire burning. Not these god-loving, do-gooding namby pamby types.

Just heard Harry on TalkSport and he said that Charlie trained yesterday and is available for tomorrow assuming he gets through training today and has no adverse reaction. Regarding JD, haven`t we been here before? As many have already said where does he think he can go to that offers him more than Spurs? I doubt any of the top Prem sides would take him and even if they did he would be in exactly the same rotation situation as he is now. A very unhelpful and poorly timed set of comments by JD. Harry will start with Crouch and DVD tomorrow for sure.

RunnerFox: An american company is not suited for making “soccer” team clothing.

And Nike are from where exactly?

Under Armour also posted sales of over $1bn last year so not exactly a small player.

From their side they’re more known for technical wear and will be looking for exposure on a more commercial level and we’ll be looking for a kit provider than can make quality kit and offer the club the best deal – seems a good fit (pardon the pun).

Someone as clued up financially as Levy won’t go to the cheapest bidder for something as large at this, or risk rubbish designs. Merchandising is far too big an area to cock up.

    • emspurs says:

ah, you say this, but the whole cup shirt running out in november thing would probably be classed as, yes, a cock up.

      • Doc says:

No it wouldn’t because we don’t know what competitions we are in after November yet. If we are in the Champions League again then we can command a larger fee, so no not a cock up but intelligent management.

        It’s basic business sense.

Here’s what Under Armour currently posts on the web. I note that L L Bean have been carrying the brand for a while, and I swear by L L Bean quality. Not sure about design with Under Armour. In their main line the emphasis seems on body hugging, contour clinging stuff. Wouldn’t do for Crouchie. OK for Baler.

The ONLY thing that matters is that under armour make shit kits. They may be a big brand, they may make great gym/exercise clothes but their football kits, which is what we are talking about, are shit.

Adidas, Nike, Umbro……then maybe puma……then a whole list of shit manufacturers that includes under armour.

    • Yachtsman says:

Steady as she goes! Let’s head off the wind a few degrees. Who have they made kits for? Can you post some examples?
