Lieutenant John Chard: The army doesn’t like more than one disaster in a day.
Bromhead
: Looks bad in the newspapers and upsets civilians at their breakfast.

Good afternoon ladies.

Wulveramptin Wandrars away it is then. This is a drum I’ve beaten before and dare say you’ll hear it again before we’re through with this. Spurs have just come back from Dubai and their performance today will reveal if if was a jolly up or something useful to do with them becoming better at playing football.

The shambles of Blackpool will be fresh in the memory. It is the responsibility of this bunch to stop mucking about and look like a team that can deliver all the tedious tosh we get spun. If I hear one more, ‘pushing on for a top four finish’ guff from the likes of Jenas or Defoe or anyone else I shall do something despicable with a rolled up copy of Hotspur magazine that will give them an eye watering bout of papercuts.

Wolves are a beast wounded and it is unlikely it will be pretty. It’s therefore that vital that the Tottinghams dictate the pace and more importantly the quality of the game.

Bromhead: At one hundred yards! Volley fire, present! Aim! Fire!

You said it and I for one agree. It’s also obvious that what Yachtsman says makes a heap of sense! the team all rush back to help Hurelio, as if they need to compensate for the inevitable expensive gaffe :shocked2: perhaps if Hutton had a bit of confidence in ‘goofy Gomez’ he wouldn’t have to go to such desperate lengths to compensate…ah well… that’s Spurs. It’s a feckin rollercoaster

I said this many times and if you’ve heard it before from me and moan “here he goes again”, I accept the criticism and do genuinely sympathise with your patience, however…..

If we troll back through the last 20 years or so and look at what our end of season position would have been had we beaten home and away, the bottom three teams, our track record would be up there with the other sky favourites. We would have been in Europe an awful lot and would have no doubt attracted those players we did not get. All from just taking maximimum points from the teams everyone else seemed to be able to beat.

Criticising Harry may salve the wounded pride, but he is not the common denominator, we have been dropping points like this (five in the last two games to championship sides)for years…the form books should shorten the odds of us losing way below our station because that’s what we do……if there were a register for doing this we’d be on it!

Next year in all liklihood these teams will be in the Championship. If we were drawn against them in a cup and lost, how big an embarrasment would that be? The fact that they are standing just a straw’s width inside the line of the EPL/Championship divide is all that provides a clutching point.

Why have we not gone away and parked the bus, played one up front and looked to strike on the break: even if we’d drawn at Blackpool we’d still be a point better off. I sort of thought the idea was (as was bandied by Harry and others) to improve our away form by flooding the midfield and nicking the extra points. Instead we go bigging it to the midlands or up north playing a game with another game in mind and pay scant attention to the fact that these sides will do anything to get a point to survive and will raise their game because a top 5 side is in town not a mid table outfit.

The fact that so many keepers play “the best game of their career” against us, or teams “look better than their posision would suggest” or “raised their game considerably” says to me that we did not put them under enough pressure to have them in the back foot…me I’d like to know why not? But its not an easy question because its happened again and agan for years: I wouldn’t know who to ask.

Leadership. I can’t think of a player in the last twenty years who has been a genuine leader. There’s only so much gesticulating on the sidelines helps; it’s lacking leaders that is hurting our team.

    • Bruce Castle says:

Not an essay question, perhaps; but do let us indulge you for an another long winded essay answer.

      • Finn says:

Don’t really need the indulgence, probably anymore that you need mine for what you might describe as succint but I see as simply superficial.

I’d suggest a mobile with a bigger screen or exercises to increase your attention span……..by the way did you have anything to add?

      • Northern Spur says:

I’d rather read a contribution from Finn than from you.

Perhaps the logic is in the geeing up of the squad for Wednesdays battle? :hae:

  • melcyid says:

these teams are playing for their lives and do raise their games.most of these games are won or lost in the players minds first. case in point leeds visit to us in our 70s relegation battle we had to win to stay up and leeds were top at that time.4-2 to us and we played them off the park and entertained at the same time alfie conns famous sitting on the ball in the corner for instance, its just the way it is.

    • melcyid says:

we always play better when the odds are stacked against us. look at the champions league and even qualifying!we were written off and are still being written off.

      • Finn says:

I agree, (with you agreeing with me… :dizzy: ) but we MUST start winning these games if we are to be a top tier team. For the most part these teams are where they are for a reason and I agree it’s in their heads.

We must go and demonstrate right from the off that no matter the level of their bravado, we are stronger, better, WILL win and that their best efforts are a waste of time. Most of these sides will collapse because they know deep down its true and if we do this consistently they will start to collapse earlier and more comprehensively.

We lose these games tho’ in part because we are THFC and we have a track record for losing these games. The oppo think they have a chance so they go for it…! We must not let them believe they have any chance and when they go a goal their heads and hearts go with it…..

Yeah Good to see JD put his boots on the right foot for once…can’t fault the forwards this time scoring three away should get us the points every time!

  • melcyid says:

hh ,the greaves dvd seemed to have worked for defoe as they werent blasts at the goal but excelent strokes of the ball with a spin away from the keeper, something he hasnt been doing .whoop whoop

Leaders we are looking for? Help you I will. Very strong the force is in this young jedi.

O’Hara, Jamie his name is.

MS – This is a late response to your earlier post. HR put Bale on the right to try and help defend against Jarvis, who was killing us with his crosses.

The problem was that Bale kept running up the pitch trying to score and didn’t really give Hutton any additional cover.

Although, that shouldn’t have been a problem. The real issue is that we are the only team in the EPL, outside of Villa, who can’t defend crosses. They have four youngsters on their backline, two playing out of position at centreback, so they have a solid excuse. We have very experienced defenders in Dawson and BAE, who have no excuses for all their ball watching and continual failure to lose marks on crosses.

      • daytripper11 says:

Although now that I think of it, to further your tactical ineptitude point, if you are trying to slow down Jarvis, why not bring on Sarge and assign him to that task?
