Gerald Ratner Confirmed As New Spurs Manager

Let me tale you a tale.

There once was a jeweller by the name of Gerald Ratner. Gerald had not one jewellery shop but lots. He rewrote the rulebook for jewellery retail. He piled ’em high and he sold ’em cheap. His shops had big gawdy posters in their windows and he employed his East End market stall techniques on the High Streets of Britain, boldly offering cut price schmutter.

One day in 1991, Gerald woke up, went to work as usual and then toddled off to make a speech at the Institute of Directors. Unfortunately that was the very day Gerald –  a pioneering and successful businessman – lost his ******* mind.

He stood before his peers and revealed that his jewellery was “total crap!” He went on say that that some of the earrings his shops sold were “cheaper than an M&S prawn sandwich but probably wouldn’t last as long!”.

By the time Gerald got home, he discovered that single handed he had wiped £500M off the value of his company.

And so to ‘IdiotGate’.

It beggars belief that Redschnapps has done a Ratner. It is stunningly obtuse for him to question his customers’ right of reply. He’s paid handsomely for managing a football club who’s fan’s constantly want more. He lives in unmitigated luxury doing a job that many dream of doing.

He swans about in top of the range motors and hand finished suits watching his mobile phone bleep while there are people in the NHS caring for incontinent pensioners in exchange annually for what he earns in a week.

It’s bewilderingly arrogant of him to call those that dare to call a radio station to voice their dissatisfaction, ‘idiots’.

I’ve made no secret about how I feel. I think on balance he’s done a good job. But his comments aren’t welcomed by anyone. Not by his supporters nor by his detractors.

Dead man squawking.

I can take not being in the champions league. I can take a poor run of form. I can even take the odd jermaine jenas appearance. However, I cannot take a manager who acts so nonchalantly as things go evidently down the pisser. If Wenger had been in charge of us the past twelve games, N17 would be fresh out of water. “We’ve never been in the champions league before”, just doesn’t cut it, not with the falterings of others and our inability to capitalise. “man city spend loadsa money”, only affects the difficulty of two games per year. What happens next year when there’s no inter/milan results to fall back on…

  • AFelching says:

No respect for the fans or the club, bitting the hand that feeds him. This attitude has been simmering for some time with Bagpuss, time to pull the trigger Danny we are Tottenham Hotspur after all.

    • Ryan says:

Hopefully DL has the gun fully loaded, bad performance tomorrow and HR he may need full body armour for the brum game.

  • PLN says:

I love Martin Jol, he didnt beat the big teams, but he made sure that more often than not we beat the shit ones.

And he had a worse team that we have now.

Harry is trading off a few good results against big teams. it aint going to wash.

Claiming that only idiots complain is obviously a thinly veiled attempt to curtail any criticism levelled his way.

  • AFelching says:

Jol is a good shout, he respected the position he was given

    • Ged says:

FACT: Jol went for a job interview at Newcastle while he was still employed by Spurs!

      • PLN says:

        Proof: you dont have it.

        • Ged says:

          http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1082073/Levy-puts-boot-Spurs-managers-Jol-Ramos.html

‘People mention that but they don’t say anything about how Martin went off for a job interview at Newcastle while he was still employed by us,’ Levy claimed.

        • PLN says:

Read the bits outside the quotation marks. Glenn Hoddle once said we had a list of players and Robbie Keane wasnt on it. Dont tell me you’re that naive?
Levy got rid of one of the most popular managers to ever grace our club (and he did it in a shocking way), he needed to say something to divert the anger.

        • Ged says:

What exactly do you want? Photographs? Secret recordings? I remember Jol saying how he wanted to go down to Newcastle and listen to their offer.

Jol did not respect his position at Spurs at all. He should not have been speaking to other clubs while still Spurs manager.

        • PLN says:

So, let me play devils advocate here.. if someone went for an interview for a job offering a pay-rise of around £3m a year thats a lack of respect?

        • Ged says:

Yes, it’s a total lack of respect, screw the money! I am Spurs through and through, and I expect any manager of the club to be the same. Can you imagine how hated Jol would be right now if he left us for Newcastle? He must have at least considered it if he went to the interview.

        • PLN says:

But you’re a supporter, blinded by faith and loyalty. Obviously we’d like our managers to be the same, but they will never be, no matter how much they claim it.

This isnt about Jol anyway, thats the past, this is about Harry Redknapp calling anyone who dares suggest that the last 13 games have been a disappointment an “idiot”

  • NYSpurs says:

A waiting list of thousands for season tickets to pay his wages and he calls “US” idiots? A prison sentence would be a fitting and would solve a problem for Levy.

    • Yid54 says:

Who are you referring to exactly when you say “us”? My understanding is that Harry is calling the people who believe that he is a failure “idiots” and I have to say I agree. How would you feel if someone who had never done your job came along and ignored all the experience and expertise that you have accumulated in that job and started to tell you how to do it and where you were going wrong? I supect that “idiot” would be one of the milder things you would call them.

      • PLN says:

If i was doing a shit job, and i knew the output wasnt good enough, i’d accept criticism from the customer.

      • PLN says:

… and people arent questioning his knowledge or expertise, they are questioning the poor results we are getting. its a measurable quantity, much like a company with financial reporting. If the figures are bad, then questions have to be asked, regardless of a few successes.

        • Yid54 says:

So if in year one of your new role you achieved more than anyone had achieved in that role for the last 20 years but it year two your figures deteriorated marginally you would expect the sack would you.

        • PLN says:

No-one mentioned the sack until God started calling anyone questioning the results an idiot. If the figures are bad, an explanation is given, not “you’re an idiot”

        • Ronnie says:

          …true.
