Gerald Ratner Confirmed As New Spurs Manager

Let me tale you a tale.

There once was a jeweller by the name of Gerald Ratner. Gerald had not one jewellery shop but lots. He rewrote the rulebook for jewellery retail. He piled ’em high and he sold ’em cheap. His shops had big gawdy posters in their windows and he employed his East End market stall techniques on the High Streets of Britain, boldly offering cut price schmutter.

One day in 1991, Gerald woke up, went to work as usual and then toddled off to make a speech at the Institute of Directors. Unfortunately that was the very day Gerald –  a pioneering and successful businessman – lost his ******* mind.

He stood before his peers and revealed that his jewellery was “total crap!” He went on say that that some of the earrings his shops sold were “cheaper than an M&S prawn sandwich but probably wouldn’t last as long!”.

By the time Gerald got home, he discovered that single handed he had wiped £500M off the value of his company.

And so to ‘IdiotGate’.

It beggars belief that Redschnapps has done a Ratner. It is stunningly obtuse for him to question his customers’ right of reply. He’s paid handsomely for managing a football club who’s fan’s constantly want more. He lives in unmitigated luxury doing a job that many dream of doing.

He swans about in top of the range motors and hand finished suits watching his mobile phone bleep while there are people in the NHS caring for incontinent pensioners in exchange annually for what he earns in a week.

It’s bewilderingly arrogant of him to call those that dare to call a radio station to voice their dissatisfaction, ‘idiots’.

I’ve made no secret about how I feel. I think on balance he’s done a good job. But his comments aren’t welcomed by anyone. Not by his supporters nor by his detractors.

Dead man squawking.

    get him out now

The arrogance of this man is stunning. Anyone who has a different opinion to him is an idiot; 1 win in 13, is a ‘triffic’ return?

I’d like to ask Harry what would constitute success or failure? Tell us before the season starts; then we can tell you to fuck off.

PS arrogance is ego + ignorance, that’s you ‘Arry!

    • Yid54 says:

I would not presume to answer that question on Harry’s behalf but if you’d asked me at the start of this season I’d have probably said “top six finish and remind the world know who we are and what we stand for in the Champions League”.

I’m with Arry. People who don’t think we are in a better position than before he came, in fact for many years before he came, are loopy.

We have had a disappointing end to the season and we have dropped points to some dross sides. But we also beat the Goons at theirs, beat Milan at theirs won a CL group that included two great games against Inter and went out mainly because lanky Pete lost his marbles.72

I dont think people are saying we’re in a worse position, they are rightfully (in my opinion) left feeling that this year (2011) has not been good.

I’ve not heard the calls to TalkShite, and Harry says he hasn’t either, but i think he should at least acknowledge the fact that this year (again, 2011)the results haven’t been what they should be.

If he came out and said “i’m disappointed and we need to sort it out” then that i can handle, but the way he deals with criticism isnt good.

Everyone knows we need a striker, have done since the beginning of the season, even my girlfriend says that, i think the stats back it up. We failed to get anyone of note in and subsequently the season faded out.

      So, Harry out? No.

Harry should shoulder some blame? Yes.

      • onedavemackay says:

What would have been a good year for you ?

And is it totally Arry’s fault we didn’t buy a striker?

I am also pissed off we didn’t buy a striker and I am also disappointed that we didn’t make the top four but which managers might have done better ?

        • PLN says:

Let me ask you, has (calendar) 2011 been a good year for Spurs. Because Harry Redknapp thinks it has been. We’re not saying this manager or that manager is better, we’re saying 2011 has been poor. Which it has, and for thinking this, we are idiots.

Thats the issue here, not who can do better than him.

      • Yid54 says:

We are all disappointed that the end of the season (2011) has not been great but 2010/11 has been.

Of course we needed a striker (or two) but is it Harry’s fault that we did not get one. DL does the buying and by all accounts he tried very hard to do just that. There was no point in buying one that was not as good as those that we already had and those that were better were out of reach for whatever reason.

I remember a few seasons back when we were desperate for a striker and we ended up with Raziak.(?) Fortunately we did not make the same mistake this time round or HR (or DL) would have had to shoulder the blame. As it is I don’t think there is anything to blame him for.

        • PLN says:

I agree with everything you say there, but why does Harry feel the need to call you/me/us an idiot for thinking that 2011 was a disappointment?

He even went so far as to say that every spurs fan enjoyed 99.9% of what they have seen this year.

No he shouldnt be hung, but he should be man enough to accept that its a team game and when we havent performed as we should, we need to be accountable.

  • Wowsers says:

He has shown more fire defending his position than he has fighting for success.

Get the F*ck Out you self-interested bullfrog

  • Chris says:

redknapp doesnt speak the truth he is constantly sucking up to the fa. he thinks he is gods gift to football. spurs havnt played well this season mainly due to the fact he didnt sign anyone.
do i think he should be sacked? no, but i do think he should take the blame for a dreadful season and not pretend it is our best ever. for me he has this summer..

    • Nicktheyid says:

When someone says to you ” do you fancy a beer” even if you don’t most would say ok! We tried in vain to get people in then levy says ” do you fancy charlie Adam” Harry must of thought you fuckin kidding me ain’t ya? One minute we’re bidding £30m for strikers the next your going for fuckin Charlie Adam ?! Yeah ok. It’s not Harris fault we couldn’t get any one in. Think the summer will be interesting
