NDP or Bust?

Hello viewers.

It appeared at first glance to be just one of those Fridays that inevitably fall just before you get paid. At first glance you’d put your impending wages on it being one of those Fridays when you know with a burning certainty that Diego Forlan wasn’t really at the Lodge being asked to provide a urine sample. And him responding, perhaps in Spanish, ‘What, from over here?’

But it all got quite feisty. I can assure you of that. It took a turn for feistyness.

I was having a having a conversation with the highly esteemed and prolific author Norman Giller and the much respected media all rounder, Martin Cloake.

It was essentially that Norm and Martin both have faith in the notion, the idea of a coming together of all parties involved in the NDP now in the wake of Judicial Review having now been vetoed.

That a meeting of minds featuring involved parties in Haringey, THFC, Boris, Lord Coe, Mr Lammy etc could somehow thrash out a viable path to WHL being updated and upgraded for the 21st century and beyond.

My view was that this was a commendable, even noble but ultimately deluded view.

The decision to gift the stadium to a pair of Porn Barons running a Championship football club with enormous debts was in essence corrupt in so much that those wanting the stadium to remain after the Games merely wanted a monument to their achievements there forever for all to coo over.

I also suggested that given the surreal costs of expanding at the present location ie continuing with the NDP, that the Club would either need to put itself in hock to Bond villains/foreign investors or resign itself to working off it’s debts and not spending any money on players for a generation.

Before I ask you what you think, can I ask for something more sophisticated than either ‘let’s move in to Wembley’ or ‘I’d rather watch us in the Championship than leave N17.’ I would regard both of those sentiments as being as equally unbalanced.

So, what do you think?

This is developing (no pun intended) into the most serious issue for Spurs. As the likes of Luka flirt with millions from west London and the likes of Eto condemn us in 1 sentence we have reached our peak. The only way of cracking the top 4 code (especially under the Platini rules) will be with a top 4 stadium. This is why the blinkered loyalists were so annoying. Don’t move 8 miles they crowed, don’t lose owenership of our territory they whimpered and all the while the only thing we lost thru not getting the Olympic stadium was a bright future. Harringay can get stuffed as far as I’m concerned. We need a new stadium somewhere in N London ASAP or become Everton South. No areas off limits and all those local fans from Herts and Essex can get a different train to our home games and get used to it.

Maybe time to relocate… Woolwich doesn’t have a local team anymore, does it?

make seats at WHL half the size and make the whole stadium season tickets, selling to people below 9st.

After we lost the Olympic stadium bid the first time around, I had a look on google maps at the tottenham area.
Basically with our location as it is we’re screwed unless the government helps out with some good old “urban renewal”.
To find anywhere with viable access or actual space for a stadium, it’s going to be out of the area.
Either we look into Pickets lock or go up the A10 to enfield, but then with both of them, there isn’t any train or underground stations in close proximity.

If the supermarket option is still part of the plan, let’s build on top of that Tesco by the A406!

Napalm Ikea and start again. Alternatively, lets build a new ground from ‘Billy’ bookcases in their car park!?

I have to agree with your assessment by the way HH on the corruption and nonsense that has seen us get to this point. I think DL is still holding out hope that pressure on Boris will yield some kind of fruit but I get the feeling that whatever there is, is getting increasingly sour.

That the stadium was built without and end user is folly in itself and should forever be held as an example of incompetence at it’s highest – but coming less that 10 years after the debacle of the Dome it almost verges on criminal to make the same mistake again.

Like you said, it always comes round to people like Blair, Mandelson & Coe wanting to build monuments to themselves.

      Yep.

The naive in the audience seen fixated upon an Olympic legacy. This was a funny phrase on the Beeb’s ‘2012’ show but in reality meant naff all.

Athletics? If ever there was a minority event. Originally promoted at a rough guess to reduce heavy duty masturbation in the days before the Internet.

The very notion that Lord Coe & Co would gift the venue to absolute rubbish like the Porn Barons simply underlines just how weak that idea at heart truly is.

Stupid stadium. Corrupt people in charge.

Yes but look at the spin offs…Debs does Mark at the Olympics, Debbie tosses the Hammer at the olympic S, Debra goes Green at OS. etc., whats that 5 million copies each at 20 bucks a shot. Maybe we should buy Debs!!
