Ultras At The Lane

Gooda mornin’.

A special welcome to any Rover fans who might be dropping by in the next 24 hours. We trust you enjoy your stay and manage to resist the urge to hospitalize yourselves on our half price beer.

Word from Arry Redschnapps is that this side will contain [and I quote] “seven or eight Internationals.” Well Arry if you can be bothered then what the heck, so can I. See you on Channel 5 my old son.

So there is a distinct possibility of a football match breaking out this time around? We’ll have to wait and see. Super Roman Crazypavinchenko is likely to run out again and hopefully an Azza Blud/Krankie combo will dramatically improve his game.

He’s taken a few volleys of abuse of late. I’m convinced he’s a quality striker. That said I’m increasingly convinced he’s at the wrong club and perhaps in the wrong League. He’s not getting either the breaks or the time and if he scores 3 tonight it’ll be the old, …it was only against…

Dos Santos is another likely starter and given his sensational cameos in the Copa America, if he does naff all again his problem is straightforwardly Arry. A few booze hound tales and a snap of him collapsed in the Daily Mail and who wouldn’t believe he was a waster? But his performances  in the Summer were frequently breathtaking.

good runout for the reserves tonight.Although the ropey teams so far have been ropey they have at least played together on a regular basis which does give them some advantage while our lot are only starting to get to know each other and it shows some times. so I dont think weve done bad so far. I would like us to win this tournament though.

Aaah, the glory days of European football.

I noticed we hit the bar a couple of times in the first half, they scored from a deflection, and were by and large not very good.

We were much better than them. I especially liked how Shamrock broke late on in the game and had what appeared to be a 3 on 3, and then proceeded to turn it into a 10 on 10. i.e. pass it all the way back into their own half. They lacked a lot.

We weren’t amazing, but we didn’t really need to be, and their goal just seemed to make us a bit sharper.

Rohan Ricketts showed us nothing, bless him.

    good fun all round,

its been a while since we’ve seen so much of a young un like carroll getting time in the middle, who knows if he will be any good but he sure is composed on the ball, carroll & livermore in the middle townsend and rose on the left,i do believe we have some useful kids at last

the russians will no doubt be tougher but i say give our ropa lads a chance, they are learning to play as a team too

not sure charlie and basoon could cope though, when they are at the back we know its a laugh

can’t see the point in playing cuddles,if the yank goes down i’d rather gomes in goal any day over cuddles in the prem

I was very impressed with Carrol, he got better as the game progressed and I thought Giovani was superb, glad he scored. Pav was shit and should be sent to siberia. Watching shitness like that brought me back to the frustrating days of Iverson.. lots of potential but no confidence. Townsend was superb and worked his little bloody socks off when he came on at half time. Great to see all the kids getting a workout. I was sitting in the west stand and had a couple of hundred shamrock supporters sitting a few rows behind me… WTF… whatever happened to segregation, but I digress… I haven’t heard away support like that for years.. they were great, really funny songs and very, very loud. Just got home from the match and have to say that sloppy chops taking Lennon off was the best move of the night. GDS was outstanding in the second half, Carroll outstanding for 90 minutes as were the Rovers fans….shamrock played very well considering, played a passing game and deserved their goal and should have had a penalty at the death…
Livermore and Townsend showed enough, but Kane looks out of his depth at the moment. Good to see Rose play and he did OK, and great to see Gazza back at the Lane, clearly enjoying himself…overall, a good test for the youngsters and fringe players and I have to say Pav started poorly but definitely got better as the game went on….
