Good afternoon.

Good being comparative of course to the unmitigated migraine that was not only this morning but indeed also the bulk of yesterday. Imagine being trapped in a confined space with Ainsley Harriot for an indeterminate length of time. That’s my joy trying to apply reason to why this blog won’t work like what it oughtta.

So a win against a bunch of Premier League bottom feeders. Just as well. I don’t know if I could have coped with another backlash quite so soon. The terrain of the online football junkie is littered with characters from a 1970’s sicom. “Everybody out!”

Well brothers and sisters the boy done good. And that is my thought for the day. All good evangelists have one I am told.

Van der Vaart is a one trick pony. You field him and he plays to win. He plays to score. The man is a delight. Sometimes the old legs are weaker than the heart, but by Jiggins his heart was forged to not just to fight but flourish in the face of his foe.

The tactical talents of Mr Redschnapps have been called into question and maybe it’s an over simplistic solution to this is for VdV and Modders to be played in their favoured positions and build all else around them.

I warmly recall lengthy chats with an old pal of mine, Dave [a security guard] and I [a man permanently on his way somewhere else] in the cultural experience that is the Stillorgan Shopping Centre .

Dave is one the best. A Manchester United fan, bless him, but one blessed with a phenominal footballing knowledge and more vitally a  understanding of football. Frequently we’d chew the fat over one game or another. The memory that makes me smile as I type is he and I almost taking it in turns to routinely deliver the punchline, ‘its a simple game – for example – you and I  understand it, perfectly.’

I wonder if the Trout gives VDV a right rollicking for scoring goals while out of position and making it difficult to play Defoe from the off. praps he could sell him for 30 mill in the jan window and get rid of the subversive rebel. :freu

  • eastanglianspur says:

30m for Defoe – grab it whilst we can.

@Jim,so you think finishing 5th last year was Harry being faultless?I find that amazing,4th spot was there for the taking.theres too many happy clappers about when it comes to Harry

See comment above. I don’t think I’d say Redknapp was faultless but backing him rather than constantly sniping at him seems to have some of us tagged as drooling evangelists. He’s the incumbent of the job, the club have done well under his charge and no-one can guarantee that things will be better under someone else. I’d rather support than snipe, that doesn’t make me a happy clapper, just a happy supporter.

In general, I think the club have had too many years of pointless change – The Ramos farce being about the lowest point of it, and I’m glad that we have this period of stability while we sort out the club off the pitch.

        Amen.

Carry on criticising Trouty guys and gals, we seem to be forcing a better performance from him! Keep up the unrelenting pressure, “I say” (in a Kenneth Williams accent)

Being a good supporter isn’t about sticking your head up your arse and not pointing out obvious flaws. How can any body guarantee a new manager would do a better job,I can only hope that we get a better man when Harry moves on,and quite a few honest candidates have been mentioned and then ridiculed by the happy clappers.Singing the loudest does not make you better fans, you all seem to think your standing on high moral ground

I’ve been lucky enough to follow Spurs for many, many years and have stood at my same spot watching greats and watching dross. I know that every time we’ve trumpeted a big managerial move and a new dawn, we’ve sat through a transitional season of nothingness, followed by 20 players out the door and 20 new ones in. For once, I want us to stick with a winning formula and try to take the club forward. That’s not sticking my head up my arse as you so charmingly put it, it’s called learning from the past.

There is progress under Redknapp but sadly, too many people have bought personality into the equation. I don’t want the man sacked because I don’t like him – whether I like him or not is irrelevant.

As for obvious flaws, I go back to my earlier post where I said that if you ask 20 Spurs fans the perfect line-up you’d get at least 15 different answers. So flaws which seem obvious to you might not seem obvious to others – It’s called disagreeing and we’re entitled to do it… That doesn’t make us ‘Happy clappers’. I find that phrase – And I blame you HH entirely for it, incredibly insulting.

        • Frontwheel 2 says:

Try not to be so easily insulted as no harm is meant

You make a fair point there Astro. I recall when Glen Hoddle was the new Messiah. First of all he refused to join us until after we got a semi against Arse out of the way first, and then declared his ambition for us was top 6 within three years. We then continued to play as if we were doomed to mediocrity, like the Flying Dutchman was doomed to sail the seven seas; for eternity

One thing about HR, is that he has never promised us anything, but delivered a lot when compared to most of his predecessors.

I happen to think the best we have had since Venables was MJ, but when you compare HR, to Gross, Hoddle, Francis and Graham, to name but a few, HR makes for a good runner up.

      • Sandro Redknapp says:

        You talk such sense!!

      • eastanglianspur says:

Too many meaningless emotional absolutes is this thread: ‘Faultless’? ‘Perfect’? WTF?

What we need is general improvements in all departments from owner down to the players and for them to show they are worth the astronomic salaries they are all getting.

I think finishing 5th was about par 4th would have been great. Why? What club was there for the taking? If your thinking Arsenal, they are this year but last year they were better (fab, nasri, clichy) all i think are quality players with a bucket full of experience . This year i would be pleased with 4th but i dont think 3rd is out the question. I dont understand how 4th could be for the taking, when there are 17 other clubs trying to take it.

    • jim says:

Faultless being look where we were, look where we are, look where we may be this year. I dont think i know another manager to improve a club so drastically whilst keeping the same finances.

    • SpurredoninDublin says:

If we played to our true potential last season.,we should have finished second.

      • jim says:

        How bout this year?

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

This year depends on Chelsea. If they have a good year, our potential is fourth. If they don’t, then third place.

Don’t forget, you will want to show how stupid I am come May.

        • jim says:

I’m with you, except after watching MU v MC i’d say MU could be in a touch of trouble come Jan.

      • Astromesmo says:

That’s a bit of a statement. With no CL I might have backed you for 3rd but 2nd? With a debut CL campaign going on?

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

I’ve already had this conversation with you months ago. I don’t know if you recall the league tables I came up with which showed how abysmal our results were against the bottom sides. Add to that Chelsea got four points from us instead of us getting six because of the three illegal goals they were awarded, and that makes swing og nine points against Chelsea who finished second. If the ref had got it right, the table would have been Manure 80 City 71 Arse 68, Chelsea 67 Spurs 67.

Bearing in mind all the points we went onto lose against the lower sides, is it really that difficult to see that we only needed another 5 points for second place, when we only got (e.g.) one point each from Wolves, Wigan, Blackpool and West Ham.

        • Astromesmo says:

It depends if we’re talking about the Wolves, Wigan etc. that we lost to last year or the Wolves, Wigan etc. that according to some it’s irrelevant we’ve beaten this year because we didn’t thrash them. :daumen:

          Sorry, couldn’t resist it. :finn:

        • eastanglianspur says:

Maestro, no one is talking of thrashing anyone but rather winning convincingly – something you seem to have difficulty in understanding. ;-)

        • SpurredoninDublin says:

          @astro.

We seem to be talking at cross purposes. I was talking about my opinion that we should have finished second last year.

        • eastanglianspur says:

          Spot on! 8O :daumen:
