If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Twitch It

Good morning.

Our tight lipped, ashen faced supremo Arry Redschnapps has decided to confound his critics and implement a managerial masterstroke.

“Aaron’s been in good form lately. I think he’s better on the left than on the right, in all honesty. When he comes on the left, like he did at Fulham and against Bolton, he can score.

He likes to duck inside on his right foot, or he can take it past you.

“I think he gets more opportunities to score goals when he plays on the left. On the other side he tends to go one way.

When he gets on the left side, he squares people up and he can come inside around the box and he’s got that shot on all the time. I think he’s happier on the left.

Now I’ve seen this work on a couple of occasions. I admit that. But I’ve seen it not work more frequently.

Yes, Arry has done brilliantly, but he’s got this wrong. This is the same guy who thought the boy Bale was in his best position as a left back.  Mixing it up mid game is a good idea but swapping Bale and Azza over on a permanent basis is surely going to generate play as ‘predictable’ as it is right now.

This is all about facilitating Azza who appears to routinely lack inventiveness and of course a decent final ball. Harsh? Well we spend every season watching essentially the same spiel. Gets the ball, hares off like a lunatic, crosses into row G. That’s if he’s not recovering from some injury at a pace that would put an octogenarian to shame.

No, what’s needed to greater variety in Azza Blud’s play opposed to accommodating his weaknesses.

Lennon – on his day – is an exceptional player but to my mind he is at most exciting when he breaks from the clock work mouse drill of pelting up the wing. I’m not suggest he knock that stunt on the head, rather he add more moves to his rather limited repertoire.

I wish some one could nick his teeth during the week and give them back on saturdays!

I love HR but we are talking about a man who thought Gomes’s best posistion was in goal..

    Boom Boom :)

I know Bolton only had 10 but Bale was playing almost as a third forward at times. He just seemed really up for it and was picking the ball up all over the park. Azza scored cutting in from the left. Lennon’s Fulham goal was a result of them both being on the left.
All for them adding a bit of variety to their games but think they are best on their ‘natural sides’ in the first half the ball in from Bale missed by Ade and Defoe was a peach and should have been finished. Azza crossed for two that both should have resulted in goals for Ade and Defoe.
As for Harry’s comments, I think he just has to say something – at the time I’m sure he had no idea they’d even swapped. I think this team just get on so well they accommodate and cover each other automatically – I’ve never seen such a fluid Spurs side. Most importantly I hope Harry saw in 20 mins of VDV on the right that the bloke can’t play there.

Matt; c,mon mate; Arry knows what is going on. This aint no fluke being 3rd you know. To consistently perform week in week out backs this up.

Theres a lot on here that believe Arry has no tactical nouse whatsoever. Some even think he just turns up pats a few backs; tells those with fragile confidence levels how good they are and fucks off back to Sandbanks.

Surely we arent naive enough to believe that?

Rest assured he knows what he’s doing. The art of managing a successful team of people (not just poncy footballers) is to make them want to work/play for you. Get the pat on the back when you’ve done well and take the rollicking when you havent. Arry is the master of this. A quality very few acknowledge

He is the real deal dont you worry about that. I can live with his media nonesense as some of the time its quite amusing. There aint a manager in the world I’d rather have at this moment in time.

To back you up here, the very fact that he is able to instill confidence in his players is evidence that they have confidence in him. If it were the case that the manger didn’t have a clue about football, the players wouldn’t put much stock in what he said to them. I would be like your mother telling you you’re handsome.

Players like Modders, Parker and VdV understand the game of football, and they would have spotted it long ago if Harry were tactically inept. And if they thought that, you can be sure there would be grumblings in the dressing room. Which there aren’t,

Aaron is a top top player on both wings and my man of the match on Sat,lucky to have him and would make any team in the Prem.

Rewind back to early Sept, we were winning, but there was something still not right about the side. The debate was where VDV should play and whether Sandro should be in midfield with Parker as we were lopsided with VDV or Defoe starting. Lennon’s return to the team sorted that out immediately and the side one again was cohesive, balanced and more dynamic. Bales form has also improved to no end and the goals have flown in despite some profligate finishing. We’ve raved about Parker and rightly so, but for me it’s been Lennon that’s made a huge difference to our side, and a fit Lennon certainly gets mt backside off the seat the moment he gets the ball whether playing left or right,as does the Beast.

Lennon has played very well the last few games and it seems he has got his mojo back. Unfortunately when Arry switches the two wingers against decent teams it does tend to have a negative effect in the majority. We simply go down to a side with 9 men, become very narrow and the opposition gain in confidence. This has happened far too often for my liking and therefore, sitch them once or twive a game for a couple of attacks, but not for 10-15 minutes at a time which is what he has been doing…At the end of the day, is there anybody in the world better than the boy Bale at the moment?

      • Hartley says:

        ….on the left side.

        • essexian76 says:

Do you think Bales brilliant form and Lennon’s return is a coincidence Hart? Don’t get me wrong, I was pissed off with Lennon in midweek, too much arrogance and very little end product, but I also accept that he’s a winger and they do irritate from time to time. But his grafting compliments Walker and had made his introduction into the side so much easier. We’ve got two flanks that carry a real threat, so much so, that to ‘double up’ one side, leaves the other exposed and the oppositions centre vulnerable, hence the amount of goal chances we now create, and it looks flipping great as well

        • Hartley says:

I sort of agree….but let’s do it occasionaly rather than for prolonged periods every game.

Overall we are playing superb football, but we have got to use our squad intelligently from here on in. Lennon is in fine form but for me he still is the one to drop for Sandro when playing the better teams away from home.

      • jim says:

Do you think Bale could ever be given a striker role if needed? A bit like Henry did for Arse. I think he was a Leftie at the start of his career.

    • jim says:

Krankie was also good on the left, but its Lennon’s place, definitely.

      • jim says:

        Sorry meant the right.

        • essexian76 says:

Morning Jim, I couldn’t care less whether it’s left or right-right now, but it’s evident we’re a far better side with Lennon than without him. It was rumoured that Liverpool wanted him and offered 20million,ironically the same fee the Scousers paid for Downing and Henderson. Well if that’s what 20 million buys you, give me Lennon anyday, mind you if 35 million buys you Carroll give me Pav ;-)

        • jim says:

Morning Buddy, Liverpool have spent a fortune on a lot of average players. The radio muppets keep yapping on about how good Suarez is but i think hes only scored 3 or 4 so far. And watching him against Fulham on Monday he seemed very frustrated. If they are out of contention by Jan i can see him wanting out. Lennon is worth 30m of anyone’s money right now. As for Carroll, Newcastle saw them coming! What a way to blow the 50m they got from Chelsea. Its laughable!
