FA Will Have To Fund Arry’s Replacement

Good morning.

It’s far from a complete surprise of course but the jungle drums have begun gently beating in relation to this whole England manager business. How much of this is factual and what elements are conjecture are for you to decide. So here we go…

While the FA have yet to make a formal approach… the two parties on our side are making ready their respective contingencies. For Arry’s part as we all know, he wants the England job and is letting the tide of popular opinion carry him gently into it.

Levy & Co have understandably gone into self preservation mode and it’s suggested that if or rather when the FA do come a knockin’ that they better brace themselves. Oh yes and bring an articulated lorry of cash with them.

It’s been suggested to me that Tottenham will understandably not roll over and have their tummy tickled in all this; a robust stance ought not be confused with brinkmanship.

The mood at The Lane is that Arry wasn’t cheap to install, a lot of hard work has gone in during this appointment and to date it has been a massive success. The poaching of Arry is not merely a challenge to the achievements but a concerted attack that will directly attempt to undo it all.

Not only will a firm stance be taken over the remainder of Arry’s contract a financial cost be placed upon it plus – and this is the really interesting bit – the cost of organizing his replacement.

Arry came in at a reported cost of £5M and his stock has obviously soared. The expectations then – based upon achievement and the requirement to uphold the standard set – of who is an acceptable replacement are understandably high.

Who knows what goes through the FA’s mind? But if they were thinking a Arry would arrive all smiles with a carriage clock under his arm they will need to think again.

The feeling is that the Club has learned a few lessons the hard way [think the shoddy and destructive Berbatov deal] and won’t be fooled again. The firm line taken in relation to Modric will set the tone. The message is you sign a contract with us, you see it out. If you don’t want to see it out bring a good lawyer and plenty of folding.

Both sides are keen to avoid a PR disaster. But the ball is certainly in the FA’s court. Whilst the England manager position dominates the back pages, the reality is that the national side’s stock has been in a more or less continuous slump since 1966. They may release a new Engerlund shirt every 6 weeks but it’s difficult to find someone selling them at full price.

Arry could rejuvenate the FA streams like nobody ever has. But Levy & Co. are determined to safeguard the Club’s future.

Arry has won f all for us.

    • Phil McAvity says:

Yeah he’s well shit, the sooner we get rid of him the better. I mean fancy only getting us to the quarter finals of the Champions League on our first attempt.

TMWNN do you think HR will leave? From memory you’ve been fairly balanced on this one.

    • Essexian76 says:

Yeah, a chip a each shoulder

    • TMWNN says:

£6 million a year for a part time job at his age. Treated like royalty at football grounds up and down the country. None of those pesky foreigners who speak in an unusual tongue in the team. The press fawning over every quip. All at the risk of some nasty words written about him when it does go tits up, then a hefty pay off.

      Of course he will.

      • jim says:

How much does he make a year with us? I genuinely dont know but it must be up there. This could really bugger us.

        • TMWNN says:

To be fair, money probably has nothing to do with it; he’ll earn a bundle if he stays or goes. It’s more of a status thing with Redknapp. Lovely bloke when he’s winning, but his insecurity at not being taken as a serious manager, is there for all to see when he’s losing. His ego isn’t capable of turning this job down.

A job for Jamie as his adviser(with top top expenses)

  • Doc says:

Good to see Harry Worth making a comeback.

  • Bruxie says:

I don’t much like the alternatives to ‘Arry.

Especially those putting their names forward.

    Poyet? No thanks.

Others have suggested younger, up & coming managers. No thanks.

I can only really be bothered with those who I would sack ‘Arry immediately for.

    Maureen and The Barca guy.

My favoured option, though, is ‘Arry doing the Euros and then telling the FA to do one until just before the next WC.

If Stuart Pearce is good enough to stand in temporarily – he’s good enough to do the qualifiers for the next tournaments.

As to ‘Arry taking Bond and Jordan. I don’t think it will happen. Pearce comes with the job. He’s in line for the job on a permanent basis after the next WC.

    In my opinion, of course.

    • Spurstacus says:

The next appointment needs to show ambition.

    • Bruxie says:

Yep – you did read that correctly.

I would sack ‘Arry now (this minute) if either of those two threw their hat into the ring for the ‘Spurs job.

The only way I’d keep him is if he committed to ‘Spurs publicly and rejected the England job BEFORE it was offered.

      • jim says:

Pepsi and maureen, either of them and I wouldn’t be concerned. The thing is other than them I can’t think of one other manager. Maybe the dutch bloke who took over Chelsea for half a season but didn’t stay because he managed Russia. But for me thats it.

        • Bruxie says:

          That’s what I’m saying.

‘Arry is my choice as it stands…and I’d try to keep him if I was Daniel.

IF, however, I couldn’t keep him, I’d sound out the other two.

I’m buggered if I can think of any better than those three.

Didn’t the Dutch guy (Hiddink?) just sign a deal with Ansi?

        • Spurstacus says:

Guusie just signed with Anzhi. Rijkard, Mouro, Pep, Klinnsman, Van Gaal?, Ranieri? Too much to ask? In the same way we need to show ambition with our player signings, we need to appoint someone that makes a statement of intent. Poyet, Lambert, Coyle??!!, Moyes? Leave off! does anyone really believe that our big guns will stay if we sign anything less than a Champs League coach?
Personally I don’t want any young/ up and coming coach cutting his teeth with us.

        • jim says:

Hiddink Thats the name! I didn’t hear or see anything about that hopefully not. Ill go check

        • jim says:

Yep he did. 10m Euro a year. So hes out the frame.

    • Essexian76 says:

History suggests otherwise though, all England managers bring in their own team. My guess is Harry would take Jordan and Bond, but not Sherwood, who I’m convinced will make it as a manager in his own right sooner or later, but with a lesser club to start with.

      • Bruxie says:

        Jordan?

        England?

        Nahhhh.

I’d like to see him sort Terry out though. Before ‘Arry hopefully drops him.

        • Essexian76 says:

Gorman?, he was Sweaty-Cappello’s men, all Italians, Sven had his sidekick-and Martin O’Neill was up for the role-I reckon big Joe wouldn’t hesitate to infiltrate England and sabotage Harry’s plans

    • SuperSpurs says:

      Hoddle ??

  • Bruxie says:

    I have faith in Levy.

I also have faith in the fact that we are not going to get the equivalent of the AVB “project”.

    Bollocks to that.

We need such a high profile replacement (someone with a track record and who is also as rich as the players he manages) that we are in a position whereby ‘Arry can name his salary with ‘Spurs and then tell the blazers to “do one”.

I don’t go with this list of managers who cannot talk to the players they have in the squad.

Mancini could be out of a job shortly (I said “could”) and I’d possibly consider him as fourth choice.

I’d like Levy to say something BEFORE any offer is made to ‘Arry – but that won’t happen.

Fans are fans and will always be the last to know…and that after a specially structured, contrived statement has been compiled by a mixture of owners, PR an legal twots.

    Happy days…
