Gently Oozing With Pride

Good afternoon.

A gutsy well earned point against the usual vexations of  Secondhand Fridge. Some crummy refereeing and a conveyor belt of petty cheating from a team so screwed up they believe they can manage themselves.

The only criticism was the absence of one touch passing. Our average was three and that buys the other lot time. The midfield was massively congested and neither side seemed capable of challenging that.

Bale was vastly improved. So was Walker and had Adebayor not spent the entire game fighting for every ball I doubt we’d have taken a point. He was less successful attacking but hey. Them’s the breaks.

It was a classic Mourinho- esque Cheatski performance and I’m telling you now that a Martin Jol side would have buckled. Crucially Arry’s mob did not and that was the difference out there. Chelsea lacked the killer edge today. From front to back we blunted the knives of  a still very, very dangerous side.

Was it two points dropped because we missed a few gilt edge chances? No. Our recent bad run has generated dozens of reasons to get heated and today we showed what a politician would call some genuine green shoots of recovery.

Player ratings in the morning. To our lot this afternoon I say in the softly spoken words of the young Mr Grace, ‘You’ve all done awfully well.’

The second half was a fine performance and as others have said our best for a while.

Our big players turned up and Harry got most of it spot on

  • Jamajam says:

all I hear from you lot is Arsenal still have to Play City Chelsea and Stoke as if it is a given we will lose all these games. You live and hope, nothing wrong with that. Arry says “We’ve got decent games, I think,” I thought a man of his experience should not talk like that, There are no easy games in this league you have to fight for every point till the end.Lets hope your players beleive what Arry is saying, they only need to turn up to win.

The point is that we have a run of games that we should win. Our hardest games are behind us. Arsenal have at least two games they could lose, and one against a tough anti footballing Stoke. However you can never tell. Our team has it in them to finish 3rd and Arsenal have it in them to finish 4th. We will see. If either team finishes 4th they’ll be disappointed.

This should be a warning Wigan Wining at Anfield and Everton 2-0 at Swansea

City fans will have slightly slippery bum cheeks after today.

A good point and it’s worth noting that Everton did well, as did Stoke and the goons and ManU are on fire at the moment, however I still think not all is right in the kingdon of Spurs(mark).

We do have a good run now and the calibre is now going to be tested as we should be Flat Track Bullies all the way home and some ruthlessness is needed which has never really been part of our makeup. We are playing sides that will be fighting for survival so we need to harden up and slug out point after point: if we don’t win these games we probably shouldn’t be in the Champions League anyway!

Essexian, there’s no doubt that there is a perspective gained from being at a match, but remember the information is only as good as the brain processing it. A thicko at a game will never take more away than a smart bloke watching on TV or a feed.

I can conceed some of your points on that, but I think you would be making a big mistake trying to elevate yourself above the rest of us. There are many people who live overseas who have a canny insight into the game that seems more clued in than those who perhaps should know more by being lucky enough to be there.

Finn, never, ever tried to elevate myself above anyone-I repeat-I just get pissed off when those just bitch and moan, post after post without any sense of perspective or reality. We’re not a BIG club, in fact I got my daughters ticket on a 6 month deal in 2005, so that makes a mockery of us suddenly having a 35k waiting list don’t you think? We don’t have (despite the press ignoring the fact) a sugar daddy, nor do we have a massive fan base, so at least have a little balance when assessing us against our rivals, don’t you think? and also show a little humility when those are constantly being prove oh, so very wrong! but again you read what you want to read,I couldn’t give a toss where you come from or what you see yourself as, truely I don’t, but then again don’t moan about moving to another borough when you’ve no intention of ever going to the one we’re now in?. It’s not a political party we’re supporting, it’s a football team, it’s a sport, and sport isn’t always a science and sometimes shit happens!

        Yes you do.

TMWNN lives abroad. I lived abroad. There is a waiting list. I’m sure it would have been much smaller in 2005. It was from 2005 that Spurs started to get better. I am well aware of this fact.

You certainly read what you want to read. I came back in 2008, just after we’d won the Carling Cup. The prior two seasons we’d finished 5th in the League. Juande Ramos had saved us from Martin Jol’s “sinking ship”, and we’d just signed Bentley. Dos Santos was on board. Bent. We’d killed Roma preseason 5-0.

        Massive waiting list by then.

I watched those games. Some here wathced the games and discussed them/contributed to this blog way before then. Had discussions, disagreements. On this blog. I took my alter-ego from a post made on this blog, when someone, think it was BimitarDerbatov, made some comment inviting me to join (as opposed to being anonymous), but in doing so referred to me as “”mysterious stranger”.

There were a few of us then who were posting watching or having already watched the game, somehow. As we do now.

As Finn says, “a thicko at a game will never take more away than a smart bloke watching on TV or a feed.”

I can filter out commentary. Have done so for years. “Arabic” may bother you but I haven’t got an issue with it. It’s not an endless stream without pauses. Neither do I have an issue with German, Spanish, Polish commentary, or an inability to filter it out should I wish to. When nobody is talking, you can hear the crowd. And hear them talking over the still audible crowd.

Many camera angles allow you to see a lot of the pitch, from different perspectives, I would defy anyone at one end or the other to truly say they could see what was going on all the time – that’s just rubbish. From the half way line is the best view, but also only one sided. Someone on the other side of the pitch will see more of what’s going on on that side of the pitch than you can.

So, not only is it plausible that you could gain every bit as good a perspective as you, sitting in the stands clutching your precious ticket – from watching it on TV/a stream, it’s probably likely, with the benefit of far many more angles than you have, different angled replays to your own singular view “at the game”. There are advantages and disadvantages.

And you can work out when the striker has no support on TV. Or Defoe has plenty of better options, on TV.

We could sit and write essays about why Pav, Defoe or anyone else is/isn’t that good, or what their strengths and weaknesses are. Or the manager’s. But we’ve probably done it years ago, before you even ambled on here with your high opinion of you as a ticket-holder, criticising people who live in Germany for not going to games or for not buying replica shirts?

If he wrote, “Pav is shit” to me we already had a discussion about Pav. He hated him. I liked him.

When Benny first came out and said “football’s just a job” people were calling him a disgrace, and a mercenary, and I viewed it as simply refreshingly honest and defended him.

You make a comment up the page referencing myself and TMWNN. And round off with a “when every post is negative or derogatory?”. Then follow it up with “but trying to say you’re supporter when every solitary post is whiny moan and pile of bile? how can that possibly be termed as ‘supportive’?”. And there you go again. Generalising, and having another swipe, unprovoked. How about you stop whining? We’ve been here for years. You “couldn’t give a toss where you come from”…. “How and what you consider yourself to be is your own business and I for one couldn’t give a toss, but for heavens sake don’t talk about tactics and atmosphere, when a dodgy net link is all you can go by-tried it once this season and never again!” – and you don’t think you sound arrogant?

You “never, ever tried to elevate myself above anyone”, except you have. Quite a lot as it happens.

We’ve been here for years. Get over yourself.

Well said M.S. These blogs have many many rants and its thanks to H.H. and others who do a great job giving us the chance to say something good or bad about our games and Football.Tare the biggest club in the World to me and always will be i had Utd best Law Charlton Liverpool Everton City all within a Bus ride away yet Spurs stole my heart and have kept it sometimes beating fast like against Chelsea for 50 years this April 15th. I have walked round with a Spurs scarf on shirt angloves in the winter( pansy)d there is quite a few fans in Widnes and Warrington so the only way is not Essxian The one reason we are all on here is we Love Spurs. COYS

        • Essexian76 says:

And are you on said waiting list..?, thought not lot’s of puff as per ..little action!

  • Majesquire says:

As others have said, a big big plus from the game aside from our resolute performance was that Chelsea don’t look any better than us, so with an easier run-in and a 5 point lead, we should make 4th place. That would be a a very good season – If we could go even better and get 3rd and/or get the cup it would be fantastic.

And anyone who thinks Chelsea have a chance of winning the CL needs their heads checked. As a league we’re so far behind Spain it’s unreal, and not even just the duopoly by the looks of those Bilbao ties. Our 5th best team haven’t a hope in hell.
