I’ve Got The Sun In My Eyes

Good morning and welcome to 48 hours of bridging the gap between nothing happening and a game of football breaking out against Swansea City on Sunday at o’clock.

Terry Venables has obliged his old mate and engineered a, ‘where’s that letter from the FA?’ piece in The Sun.

“I don’t see any benefit in someone coming in at the last moment with a rah-rah-rah. He has to get to know those players.”

…said Tel  whilst having being fitted for some oscelot lined slippers. Proof that this is a put up job if for an nanosecond it was thought otherwise. The whole point of Arry taking the post is that he knows the players already and he’s the greatest communicator known to man.

But today’s award for the tale that smells worse than an abandoned pet shop in high summer also goes to the old Current Bun and their, ‘City’s Sights On Modric’ article.Where Roberto Mancini is quoted as saying,

“Luka Modric is an outstanding footballer, a great player. He is definitely one of the best in the Premier League.

But it is by no means easy to get him because he plays for a big club, Tottenham. It is unlikely that they would let him leave.”

I’m struggling to see where any sights were being set there. Sounds more like he was asked about the player and gave a reasonable answer that’s been rather desperately twisted.

And so to the the link with Swansea supremo, Brendan Rodgers. I get that Arry is itching to quit and I get that Rodgers has done a cracking job at Swansea, but quiet how The Sun have ignored bookmaker prices and placed the 5th ranking man first is anyone’s guess.

Rodgers has had a terrific run with the Swans, but is he so short sighted as to bin all that and take a punt with a group of new players and moreover put his career beneath a constant microscope? I’ve only seen him a handful of times on telly, Goals on Sunday and such but he doesn’t come across as insane.

If you want a real tip, I say  George Galloway has come from out of nowhere to being a plausible front runner to succeed Citizen Redschnapps. While it will be a tough act to replace Arry, Gorgeous George would certainly tick the voracious appetite for media relations box …and given the botch job he made of Bethnal Green he won’t be in office for long …but could he match the unsparing altruism of our Arry?

We’ll find out just how good Brendan Rogders is over the next few weeks. Now is the time of the season where the promoted clubs who have excelled so far begin to flag as they realise they are virtually safe from the drop and the exersions which saw them get to this stage begin to take their toll. We saw evidence of this last week against Everton and I expect that trend to continue on Sunday. Which is why I’m going for a five zip drubbing. Come the faky Spurs.

I think generally it is the second season that causes previously promoted clubs the biggest headache.

I could never see Levy taking a punt on Rodgers. And a real punt it would be. He probably will be a great manager but we cannot afford to take the risk of him being a Frank O’ Farrell for want of an example or evan a Ramos. He could equally as well move from Swansea, fail and fade out of the game. We need somebody who has done it at more than one club or has more than just one season in the Premiership. We also need somebody with the gravitas to attract top players from anywhere in Europe.

I can’t see Rodgers at the Lane either (not now anyway), Levy is shrewd and wont take risks, new stadium the Ramos/Jol affair was a learning curve for him. The players will need somebody to keep their minds focused on spurs not Manure etc…
I dont think Harry will get the England job but if its offered and he goes its a lottery as to who will replace him.
Jose needs big bucks and Spurs dont have that sort of money which thinking about it makes David Moyes an interesting possible solution.
Cant believe I am actually wasting brain time trying to predict, its bad enough in the transfer window

I really like the way Swansea play. It is almost Barca like. However, taking a guy from one situation to another does not guarantee anything. Rodgers has probably been working on this system for a good while, and did not get overnight success. So even though I would love to see Spurs play that brand of football with even better players, the reality is that he needs a good few years to make it happen – and that is not going to happen. I say Deschamps is the realistic candidate, although I would have liked martin o neill too.

Swansea is almost Barca like….Still laughing here..Some of you people..

Swansea have played some very effective football that was very easy on the eye. I don’t know about Barca but they’ve looked better than many this season.

The stats suggest they’re third best team in Europe after Barca and Real for amounts of passing and possession, or certainly were a month or so ago. It’s fallen lovely for Cpt. Rodgers, but the foundations were already there. Swans have been vert good for about 5 yrs or so, with the fans almost suicidal when Martinez left. And another guy who done well, can’t remember his name… Full credit must go to the board for consecutive top-class appointments. If our boys spent the pre-season training with Brendan, they would not be thinking of Manure. He’s that bloody good. I’d prefer Pep to go to Chelsea, though, leaving the way clear to get Jose to Spuds, because, if we’re CL, you wouldn’t bet against ole spesh wun winning it for us, which would do me. Then we get Bren when he Mou does a Berba. Not too sure about George… Oh, and opinions do wax and wane, Jeffrey. That’s football.

I think you will find that all of us people.
