‘We’

Good afternoon.

You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. I frequently opt for a Hawaiin shirt and perhaps few balloon animals, just as a simple ice breaker. Andrea Villas Boas’ first encounter as our head honcho with the press  this afternoon was to his and indeed, our credit both classy and considered.

All the propaganda and disinformation doing the rounds courtesy of Arry’s hyena hack pals will now subside.

Boas is clearly an intelligent and polished communicator who instead of skirting the issue of his previous role at Second Hand Fridge (which was bound to proliferate) he addressed it head on and quite rightly without the need to blush.

Yes of course we got a good few new broom platitudes, but vitally he spoke of ambition and above all spoke respectfully and exuded professionalism. He is interested in winning competitions and titles.

The last bloke shamed us all by failing to touch on any of these qualities in his tenure. There is talk of a ‘high line’ there already are reports from players emerging that reflect the ‘buzz’ the new gaffer has brought with him

A ball has yet to be kicked in anger, but I have a confession to make.

He had me at ‘we’.

The salient quotes below courtesy of the BBC. His SSN interview is here.

“The dimensions of the club speaks for itself and it’s a massive, massive opportunity for me and I’m extremely privileged to have been given that opportunity.

“It’s fantastic to come to a club with such high ambitions for the future and I want to respond to the trust that the chairman has put in me with success and hopefully I can repay that trust.”

“There have been a couple of discussions with clubs. I think that a couple of them were even made public but I was always willing to wait for the right opportunity at the right time.

“For me after the Chelsea step it was important to choose somewhere where I was surrounded by the right commitment and the right people and I think I found it and I’m extremely privileged to be here.”

“The interest that we have from various different clubs [for Modric] shows the importance of the player and what he’s done for Tottenham.

“Ongoing discussions will continue with these clubs until we reach an agreement which is acceptable for each party.”

“[Ade] Adebayor is another player who was important for last season and it will be a lie if I say we are not looking for a striker and Ade is part of that list.”

What About Carroll then? “It’s not fair of me to comment on that. I’m not sure of Liverpool’s intentions on Andy Carroll but it’s certainly not a player we are looking for.”

You’d like to bring him here? “No, no, no.”

“I think it’s excellent for Chelsea to have won a trophy they have desired for so many years and there were so many ambitions towards winning it.”

And adds: “I’m just grateful that I was able to work there and in some way put it on the road to that.”

“We just have to continue with the quality work that Harry [Redknapp] left us. To lose what Harry left us is a mistake so we’ll have to try to build from that and put Tottenham on road for titles.”

Sorry but I’m all for bigging up the new regime, I’m massively excited and think it was the right time to let Harry go but all this slagging off our last manager has to stop. ‘When did you here of the place Buzzing under Harry’ errr try most of the time, HR created a great atmosphere around the ground and that’s all you ever heard from players, especially when it was going so well. All I’m saying is, yes let’s be excited and get right behind AVB, but let’s not forget its only because of Harry we’re in this fantastic position. I’m grateful for what he done and understand he’s faults so let’s move on.

Cant reply to Liamyid for some reason perhap I have been banned! but agree totally, AVB will be given time to carve our future it was right to get rid od Harry but I was disgusted by the way the so called fans turned on him.
AVB has dignity too to refer to carrying on where Harry started good work

    • AVB didnt have to listen to the crap.
The players all said good things about him…wellall the players that were on the field…the ones on the bench were in a different location and had a different perspective.
Harry did good things for Tottenham,no doubt. One of the best records since Nicholson. But while he was the used car salesman in the room and things were going well, everyone laughed at his antics, but when they didnt they assessed it differently.
Iliked the success but never though there was that much in the strategy, tactic department.
It wasnt just the end,it was also those games where you wouldlook and wonder why we were playing so bad against mediocre opposition.I cant believe he focussed the team for those games.

  • I see Harry Redknapp (sources,News Now ,Goal..com) is favourite for the Forest job.
When the going gets Cough, the Clough get going.
I bet you he will buy Beckham,Tevez and all trains to Shoeburyness…..stopping at Brighton,Bournemouth and Boscombe,Southampton,Portsmouth,Southampton and again Portsmouth,England,Tottenham and West Ham.
It could be a sleeper but it wont be quiet.

Has Fenchurch Street become the gateway to the South Coast as well?

      • No of course not but it does bring up great memories so I included it in the equation.
When I was young it was Tottenham in the winter and Fenchurch street to Westcliff in the summer (or Victoria to Brighton) or Bus from Mile End to Victoria park.
You can add all those in.

is the new kit any good?

      .
Well, that it’s obviously a matter of opinion aside, I reckon they’re the best pair of kits I’ve seen for many a year. Solid colour, no dodgy shades of blue, no childish trim/go faster stripes, strong in look and no nonsense.

Gets two big thumbs up from me.

Making me nervous actually, things appear to be going too well all round…….. :-(

I agree with all of that. Everywhere I look there’s another bloody reason to smile :wassat:

To me there appears little difference to the 1987 cup final final kit, and worn 1987-8, but I like the navy away

  • Well have a good day everyone.
Its obviously a slow news day when semantics becomes the biggest issue of the day (as long as its not anti semantics)
Hopefully the news will keep buzzing and we can see some more movement by tommorow (please God)
we still need a striker, another goalie and a playmaker for Modric.
If it was a choice I would have a top striker and a sufficient creative player (we would still have lots of supply) Actually if Bentley got going maybe even moving Lennon inside would help. A striker is our number one need right now I think.

New kit was today’s good news in the ‘happy news a day’ PR machine of the Levy Corp. Tomorrow… Who knows!?

    • MitchellThomas says:

Also the ‘Jan completes medical’ story. Led to a piccie of AVB, Gylfi (sounds like he’s from Lord of the Rings) and Jan (who looks very Richard Gough like in his photos. No bad thing – what a player he was)

      • TMWNN says:

I thought the same thing when I saw him play for Belgium the other day.

Let’s hope he doesn’t get homesick like Gough did.
