Good morning.

I managed to watch most of first half of the Red Bulls game before the commentary snuck into my brain and began carrying out a living autopsy… so then I opted to forward fast through the second half stopping only to watch the goals.

There’s no need to get to uptight. We won and it was only a preseason. But there are some areas nevertheless of mild concern.

Bentley I want to work. I never had a hate on for the guy. But if Bale is determined to pursue his vision as a number 9 or 7 or whatever then we will need more than him on the wing to facilitate. He was predictable, slow and generally weak.

Obvious positives were Bale and Gilly. Clearly cut from the same cloth is Harry Kane. I’m hesitant with the youngsters but at this stage it’s clear to see why Villas-Boas is interested in him.

Thud started off poorly, constantly giving the ball away, had a couple of nice touches including the shot then fizzled out. Last night he and Jake were no DM pairing of distinction. Jake didn’t actually do very much.

Nice to see Teemu again  and despite carrying a few pounds and coming back from a nasty injury he hustled and moved the ball about nicely.

And so to the Modric business. Strange one this.

The truth is that some players and/or their agents unilaterally wander off and shake hands on a move to a new club. Then the club’s raunchy Presidents talk to each other and start pointing out really dull stuff like ‘contractual obligations’.

So ickle Luka appears to have been busted. Andrès Villas-Boas told ESPN:

“Luka is doing double sessions on his own in London. When we get back to London I will give some of the players some time off and when we return to sessions we will decide what is best for Luka to do,” Villas-Boas said.

“He is a Tottenham player obviously, but he has to be in good mental condition to return to our training because his colleagues are one level up in terms of preparation and fitness.

“So we will have to setup a program for him that gradually brings him up to the team, that gradually brings him to fitness level – and then see what happens.”

It’s obvious to me that our beloved Spurs are showing more intelligence, patience and thinking more in their game plan. I believe we’re moving in the right direction – I’d be evening happier if we instilled Loris, Ade, Moutinho and another striker sooner rather then later .. Carol, Townsend and Noughton are certainly little gems COYS.

For those who, like me, foolishly decided to give this one a miss:

For those who did see it, were we as encouraging as the highlights make out?

If our half back line could all score like Gylfi then maybe we could be the “Spain” of the prem with no strikers!

I watched the second half ai was very impressed with the overall performance great to see Gomes back fat friedel was looking fat, sat on the bench henri was looking smug until Bale scored the whole team were fired up overall we played a fantastic game. Even tho ***** was on for 90 he was invisible again. As for the commentary, I learned a new (to me) description of offside Behind the play the commentary was pretty good Hal we didnt get all the historical bs that comes with english tv commentary they told us who had the ball and who got the ball very well and it was nice to see henry was gutted at the end.

The whole Modric saga is a royal pain in the ass yet again. This is defining spurs now and Levy,s tactics however right or wrong are creating disruption yet again. As witnessed last night yet again the team needs cohesion and in that a cm and striker are a must. We’ve 3 weeks left and I’m feeling decidedly down beat about the forth coming season. By selling Modric were going backwards but we need to do this today and move on now. Take the 30 mill to Madrid and let us all mourn now and not at the end of August when we’re looking for excuses for sitting mid table.

…yeh, but its not £30-million is it? Its £24M, and then they want to spread the rest over 5 years. Plus a percentage goes to Zagreb. So hang in there, trust Levy’s negotiating skills, pretty sure Modric will go (and for less than £40M), and equally sure Spurs have some buy-ins lined up

    • Clarkspur says:

I disagree – if THFC want to say ‘take us seriously’ they need to go out and buy Moutinho for eur35M without letting Modric go. The price of Luka is still £35M for any suitor outside of the EPL regardless of moving the team forward anyway. If we end up with Luka and Moutinho, then we are stronger than last season and not so dependent on the chicken-hater from Zagreb.

Levy & Co need to take charge of the clubs destiny and not sit about waiting for fate to throw the dice.

  • Hot_Spur says:

Habib – Joe Allen as a replacement for Modric??? What planet are you from? Modiric is world class, Allen is nowhere near Modric ability.

  • spurskip says:

just get rid o mod,3goals 3 assists not gd nuff, sig will mash dat,mod go 2madrid and sit n d bench, great 2c hudd back, and sandro upped his game big time, get a cupl strikers r we fekd

    • nipper says:

agreed, get rid of him, but at the right price. Remember he hardly played in the season when we did secure CL
