Rafa Transfer Tale Sounds Like A Load Of Old Cobblers

Good morning.

So, Rafa off to Hamburg SV they say.

Well, they rehash. Looking at the source article in De Telegraaf it seems more a case of Frank Arnesen tapping up/ making a public plea to his employer to rustle up the required readies.

Is the deal as close as The Daily Mail suggest? Mmmn. I’d say to claim this is at best ambitious. De Telegraaf says that Rafa ‘will almost certainly return to his former club HSV’. But then follows this up by adding, ‘only an agreement between Tottenham Hotspur and HSV is standing in Hamburg’s way.’ This is like me declaring I’m going to be the world’s best saxophone player. And all I need to do is buy a saxophone. And then learn to play it.

Arnesen is quoted as saying he wouldn’t rule out the move. It might be a last minute deal. Well maybe we’re beginning to touch on the truth here.  De Telegraaf seem to believe that a gap in the two parties evalution of the player is the root of the problem. Spurs want £11M and the Germans only want to pay £9.5M.

There are other factors at play that neither the De Telegraaf of The Daily Mail consider. HSV are not in a happy place. They narrowly avoided relegation last season. Does Rafa really want to undertake an uphill challenge at this stage of his career? And the other element in the equation is what does Mrs van Der Vaart want to him do?

Hey, just think. if we were to flog him, we could use the cash to put in a cheeky hi-jiack bid for Wolve’s Matt Jarvis.

AVB was being very diplomatic and respectful about William. Have read and heard a few good things said about him recently. But watched his videos yesterday and was unimpressed eg. Shuffle, step over, leg it, attempts cross, video cut to next clip. Assume this is because cross produced no end product. 19 Goals in 129 with Shaktar. Seems to be a cover option for GB and Aaron. With Andros Townsend and Danny Rose coming through do we really need to shell out – I’d rather have another forward.

Still think Moutinho will come as and when Modric joins RM. He’d be AVB’s eyes and ears on and around the pitch. Could perhaps allow Andre to sit down and plan during the game for a bit (he sometimes looks similar to an over eager U10’s Manager I used to know).

I was under the impression from our manager’s own words that initial cost and wage expectation ruled moutinho to Spuds, out. He was quoted as stating the price of buying moutinho would be higher than we’d get for Mod.

      Hope you’re right too however.

Hopefully the closing of the window and the charm of AVB/DL will bring realism into play.

Then again I’ve just heard Reo-Coker’s available as a Free Agent.

  • Eyeball Paul says:

The Eyeballer is divided on VdV …. some days he is magical, scoring, creating, running the game…..others he is below average

What annoyed the Eyeballer most during the ‘Troutychops era, was that no matter how long vdv had a goal drought he would always start ahead of Defoe…, it got to be a joke ….

EP does not think VdV is a AVB type player (lack of pace, unwilling to maintain position / structure and tackle) he is a luxary…at this juncture, AVB will be looking for fast, effective players which is why Defoe should flourish now….

Willian would be a direct replacement for vdv which means Mountihno or Pjanic will be the replacement for Ratface…

    All shall be revealed….

Question: Is Coubilly too young / raw to be considered for the first team?

“Question: Is Coubilly too young / raw to be considered for the first team?”

      The Triple Elmeister says yes.

“no matter how long vdv had a goal drought he would always start ahead of Defoe”

Would have thought that was because of their very different styles of play but agree with your assessment of VdV being inconsistent.

  • Harry Hotspur says:

    LFC should disband.

  • Jamie C says:
